I had read previous reviews remarking about how difficult this place was to find so I was prepared (iphone and Google maps got us close). Once you find it, it is easy to get to and very close to the grocery market, a fantastic pasta location, inexpensive restaurant (look for the packed places during lunch), sports bars and shopping. After... More

After getting lost from San Zaccaria station; took us double time since first to Venice street akin to maze we finally found the place. Unfortunately there was no one to let us in; the pin code from booking email did not work. Managed to call the telephone provided and given a new pin with instructions to find room and key.... More

What first astonished us was the complete lack of welcome from the host, who met us only with his need of our passports, signature and city tax money. Not even a smile or extra word to wish us a pleasent stay, so the friendly atmosphere that was advertised, wasn`t really present. The appartment was light and nice, but smelled quite... More

We stayed here for a few nights to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The apartment was very easy to find following the landlord's instructions, and within 5-10 mins walk of Rialto Bridge and San Marco. Really excellent location as you were away from the tourists but still very central for everything. Amazingly quiet as well. We were on the top floor,... More

Nicely apartment within an easy stroll to Rialto and St Mark's. On high enough ground that we did not flood. Need to keep a good eye on the street numbers and run consectutively on each side on the street. One side can be #12 and the other side # 47. Phone landlord for entry code and pick up packet inside... More

This is a two-level apartment with 2 apartments at each level. We stayed there with my parents. The staff were available in the morning and accessible 24 hours. However, the gentleman taking care of the apartment was very kind and helpful. They also offer a free Murano tour, do not forget to ask for the tour. It was close to... More

I found this place last minute in Nov and went for a long weekend with friends, we had a 2 bedroom. It was the perfect location, so close to Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square, both about 5 min walk. Clean and spacious apt with all the basic comforts, the fridge wasn't working but as it was quite cold we... More

First of all, apologies to Vanni for my late review. We stayed in the Dandolo appartment, which is fantastic, equipped with kitchenette so take a few things from home and buy the rest from the supermarket which is around the corner (being refurbed on our visit, so we found some others) and you will keep some of your costs down.... Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
