Tricky place to find, so make sure you do your homework first. Room 3 was OK - big and fairly basic. Good sized ensuite. Terrible bed - my side had a hump running the full length. My husband also complained about his side, and he's normally fairly happy. It was hot when we stayed. With the air con at full... More

The place wasn't bad. I picked it because it was relatively close to the train station--but we needed a GPS to find out which alley it was down. I wasn't expecting much--just a place to sleep as I am out and about most of the days on vacation. It's a worn down building and the carpets and blankets have seen... More

Whilst this is an affordable accommodation option for Venice, in hindsight I think I would have paid a little more and had a more comfortable stay in Venice. The hotel is fairly basic (which is fine for the price) but is in need of a good clean, replacement of carpets and overall upgrade. The staff are friendly and mostly helpful,... More

Beautiful little hotel in a great spot to see Venice. Rooms were very clean, staff were lovely and the owner went out of his way to help with our departure plans. Can be a little tricky to find but take a map and you'll be fine. Rooms have a lovely rustic feel too!

We stayed here on the 8th April for 1 evening. Lovely hotel about 15 minutes walk from the train station. When you come out of the train station turn left go over the first bridge, turn right and follow the road round you'll see the first small canal turn left and it's down a small alleyway after some shops on... It was a little difficult to find the hostel when I arrived, but the location is good. RECEPTION IS NOT 24 HOUR, so be careful not to get late or advise them about your arrival time. I reserved via hostelworld, and according to its rules they receive a reservation fee, and we pay the rest when we arrive BUT THEY... More

We had no troubles finding the accommodation, as it is within walking distance of both the train station and bus terminal. When we checked in our room was not made, but we were still able to dump our bags. The wifi needed to be constantly logged in to, and often dropped out, but overall worked okay. There was a bakery... Me and my cousin stayed here for three nights and were very impressed with the hotel. It is located in a little alley way a short distance from Venizia Santa Lucia, although it was a bit hard to find in the maze of Venice. The man at reception was very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. He helped with... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
