We enjoyed our time at the Alloggi Barbaria. The rooms are clean and have plenty of places to put your things away. We were slightly put off by the mattress with a split down the middle, but then we realized that this is common in Italy. The highlights of this place are that it is off of the tourist track... Our itinerary for Italy had us flying into Venice, staying on the island for a couple of days then picking up a car back at the airport to go to Rome and Pompei. Venice seemed like the tricky one to navigate since we had to find a way from the airport to our hotel. Faust emailed us from the hotel... More

The ease with which you can reach this B&B is its main advantage. Venice does not typically lend itself to tourists walking with luggage, but this hotel is third stop on the airport waterbus route (blue line), with 5 minutes walk and no bridges to cross. No need for an expensive taxi or personal discomfort. The rooms are large for... More

My husband and I booked this B&B as part of our honeymoon trip through Italy. We booked it for the price, which was the best we could find actually in Venice, not Mestre (mainland). We had no problem finding the place since the owner sent us an email with a cute youtube video on exactly how to get there from... More

Prior to arrival Fausto directed us to a YouTube video showing how to get to the hotel from the airport, which made arrival so easy. Our room was clean and comfortable with ensuite bathroom and fridge - all we needed. The location is excellent with easy access to all the sights. Various waterbus stops are nearby so you can visit... More

Castello - more locals than tourists. Friendly and almost cheap trattoria and pasticceria just over the corner. Close to main attractions of the city. In the hotel - clean rooms, enough space, fast wifi and friendly atmosphere. You can ask about vaporetto schedule and route, talk about place worth to visit or eat in Venice. Breakfast are Italian but in... More

This is a great option in Venice. Located about a 10 minute walk to St Marks Square and a five minute walk to the Fte Nova for a water taxi to Murano / Burano. Finding the B&B from the Ospedale stop was very simple. There are many restaurants and shops in the neighbourhood. Mr Fausto was so welcoming and gave... More

This was a great surprise gem. When booking online sometimes you are not fully sure what the room/hotel will look like. But this is right on, the room is huge with a large very nicely appointed bathroom. There is a mini bar in the room with drinks at a good price. The complementary breakfast is nice, coffee, yogurt and pastries.... More

I stayed at the Alloggi Barbaria with my husband for a weekend away in April 2015. The directions we given were spot on and it was easy to find. Our room was large and light with a large shower room with bidet and everything was nice and clean. Although it's not right in the centre Venice is very small and... More

Fausto, the host, was super nice! The room was spacious, they have lots of warmers, AC. Its really cozy inside the room. They have a fridge with beverages (i think u must pay for it, we didnt take any). And they have this unique deposit safe. Intriguing. Breakfast was nice, Fausto's wife helped us and she is really nice. xD... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
