The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and the location is fantastic right in the middle of the Rialto bridge and st marks square, for the cost of this hotel for just a base camp it's perfect. There is a smell in the landing of the hotel which I think comes from the restaurant next door... More

This was a nice little hotel in an excellent location close by St.Marks Square. The bed was comfy and the shower was brilliant. Our room & bathroom were spotlessly clean. All the reception staff were very helpful and friendly and we would definitely come stay here again open any future trips to Venice. The little restaurant attached to the hotel... More

Me and my friend visited Venice for two days. When booking this hotel for the night at only €40 I wasn't expecting much in term of quality. This hotel is honestly one of the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in. We arrived earlier than check in, the room was ready and the staff were helpful and friendly. Both... More

The hotel was clean, friendly and traditional. The food was excellent with a great selection at Breakfast The rooms were comfortable, clean and air conditioned. The location is perfect for both St Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge which are both 5-10 mins walk from the hotel.

We had a great weekend getaway in Venice thanks to this hotel (70€ per night) we even had a room with a nice canal view ! As mentioned on the website it is only a few minutes away from Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square (5 - 7 min top). The hotel was not very hard to find (we had... More

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. The long and the short of it is the location is great for the price. Service was minimal (they don't have reliable front desk service), the room smelled a bit musty/moldy, the ac didn't work, and we couldn't open the windows without dozens of mosquitoes getting in and eating us alive.... Quite small rooms and small bathroom , no lift so if you have heavy bags ? Location is fantastic , a short walk to everything. We had 5 nights there and with local advice , had some delicious meals in "local" restaurants .

Well what can we say! When we arrived the lovely receptionist, Rosela, told us that they had upgraded our room to a balcony view (room 212) and it was fantastic. The room was beautiful and for Italy, very large with a beautiful bathroom, the shower was huge. The hotel was ten minutes from the Rialto Bridge and ten minutes in... More

We stayed at Hotel Al Gazzettino in October 2015 for 4 nights. The room was large, very clean and beautifully decorated. All of the staff were very friendly and considerate. It's situated in the San Marco area and directly on one of the smaller canals. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
