It's a nice place to stay but it is very basic. There is no elevator so if you are on the 3rd floor... you have to walk up and down and up and down and if you have luggage.. it could be tiring. The room is small and the air conditioning is not very stable. The room didn't feel very... More

I booked a room in July of 2015. Although the temperature was in the 90's and the humidity was almost as high, I was not warned that my unit, like many but not all of the units, had no air conditioning. It was actually hotter in the room than it was outside. The only sources of cooling for my unit... More

The Caprera is a great little hotel. We enjoyed the hotel. We travel often, but rarely leave a review. We will make an exception in this case. The staff at this hotel was particularly friendly and helpful, particularly Ricardo. He recommended area restaurants that we enjoyed greatly. I highly recommend this hotel.

It took us a while to find the hotel, after walking up and down the street we finally found it tucked away up a small alley. The gentleman on reception spoke good English and checked us in relatively quickly. Our room was pleasant- we were only staying two nights and so we weren't expecting luxury, however the room was clean... More

Fist let me say that the map and the location are not very clear. It is just a short distance from the train station. When you see the sign for the Hotel Adriatico on the left side of the street it is in the alley way exactly alongside the Adriatico. I want to be fair for the hotel so I... More

We stayed one night just prior to a cruise. Very close to the train station yet tucked away from all the noise. Teeny, but utterly charming. You present your passport (which they return) and you get an old fashioned key that you leave at the front desk each time you go out. They serve breakfast too! Here's the ultimate kicker.... More

Very close to the train station which affords an easy arrival and departure from Venice as you will be walking or boating into the heart of the floating city. Very clean and quiet, and friendly helpful staff. I will stay here again.

We have been to Venice before therefore somewhat familiar with the area, we were traveling through Venice on the way to Viareggio, so we needed a close, clean, quiet place for 1 night. It was perfect for all of our needs and price. This hotel is still a family run business with the owners on premise, absolutely delightful friendly family.

The hotel is situated about eight minutes walk from the train station. The service was very good and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were a bit on the old side and the TV was quite small which was a bit disappointing but it didn't affect us too much since we were mostly not in the hotel.... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
