La Locandiera is in a great location close to St. Mark's Square and easily reachable by boat or taxi at San Zaccaria or Ponte de la Canonica stops. Since our last visit several years ago, it's been transformed from a stand-alone hotel with staff and breakfast room to an annex B&B of the nearby Casa Verardo Hotel. There is no... More

Wonderful place thats a 2 minute walk from San Marco square. Comfy beds, wonderful service and sufficient breakfast that can be enjoyed out on the pretty patio or inside. Hotel was perfect for us and we got a great rate. Internet works very well here. We'd stay here again

My wife and I stayed here for three nights (May 12-15) while in Venice during our two week trip to Italy. Pros: HUGE Venetian-style apartment room, full dining table, canal view, adequate 3-prong electrical outlets, a short 5 min walk from St. Mark’s Square, decent restaurants within a 5 min walk, decent wifi access although you'll have to log on... La Locandiera is very well located, 200 mt from the vaporetto (s. Zaccaria) and piazza s. Marco. The location is very nice, spacious and clean room, very hot in the winter and in a very silent place. Important things that are key in Venice, especially with heavy luggage: it has the lift and the reception keeps the baggage while you... More

Recently stayed here for a night with my mother, and would highly recommend it! Ideally located, just a 5 minute walk from the San Marco vaporetto stop and within easy strolling distance of Rialto Bridge, Piazza San Marco, and lots of other lovely Venetian sights. The room was beautiful - quite large, lovely view overlooking a canal, tastefully decorated, immaculately... More

i booked this at the last minute because my plans had changed. The location was quiet and accesible to sites in Venice. I found the staff edgy and arrogant. The hotel has no onsite staff. You are instructed to go to another hotel to check in and out and for the complimentary breakfast. The wifi was some sort of 10... More

We have stayed here several times, and always been very happy with the service received. We have stayed as a couple and also as a large family group when we were extremely well looked after. The hotel is within walking distance of St. Mark's square and many Venetian attractions. Several pleasant restaurants in the area. Rooms are well appointed, clean... More

The hotel is in a good quiet location, just a short walk to the main sites of the city. Our rooms was a good size, clean with the usual facilities. Breakfast was in the main hotel with a good selection of food available. Service was very good. Overall, a very good hotel.

Booked this without knowing Venice. Location is the best, just hidden from the busy allies and very close to San Marco. Rooms were very, very clean. Best I have seen in Italy. Breakfast is served in the nearby hotel where reception is also. Night porter speaks tons of languages, funny guy and very friendly. I think it was a bit... More

I travel extensively but never review so I have decided to start now. This Hotel is affiliated with Hotel Verado a short walk from La Locandaria. La Locandaria does not have front desk staff but they can be reached by using the phone in the room which is always answered promptly. The Hotel has a secure entrance which others can... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
