My 17 year old son is traveling in Italy and staying mostly in youth hostels. In Venice, at a very busy time, we were able to get a room here for him. The hotel employees, especially Ambra, have been wonderful to communicate with. I didn't stay there myself, and I know it is a modest hotel, but the service and... More

This quiet hotel was close to everything, but in a narrow, quiet street just a few steps away from Rialto. The hosts were charming, and fluent in English. Rooms were clean, with air conditioning, WiFi, and a small fridge. Locate on the first floor (the second floor by the American way of counting), the hotel is easily spotted by the... More

Great location (near the Rialto Bridge) for a hotel that needs a lot of help. We wanted a clean decent place but not too fancy. Well fancy it wasn't. That was ok but the bed was completely unacceptable and the pillows were flat as pancakes. Sleep is much too important when on a vacation so I do not recommend this... More

Awesome location right near a central landmark so very easy to find! Really nice hotel, nice and clean rooms. The lady at the reception is very friendly and helpful telling you the best locations. You even get a free map upon arrival. Free Wifi for people who are staying. Highly recommended :-)

My daughter and I visited Venice in May, and were so pleased with our stay at the Hotel San Salvador. We had no problems finding it at all. After getting off the vaporetto at the Rialto stop, we simply followed the clear directions on the hotel's website. The room was small, but that is to be expected since this is... More

We spent 4 nights at Hotel San Salvador. I don't think I have met nicer people in my life! The two ladies at the front desk always greet you with a smile and a big Ciao! They are more than willing to help you with plans and whatever you need. The hotel is in the perfect location to get anyway... More

Stayed in a private single room with a shared bathroom in the annex of Hotel San Salvador for one night. Location was excellent, less than 10 minutes walk from San Marco Square and the Rialto Bridge. Everything was clean, and the room had a sink and towels/soap provided, which is a plus. The annex has a common area for those... More

Tiny room but offset by the lovely ladies that run the hotel. They answered all our questions and gave heaps of suggestions as needed. Hotel is a short walk from the Rialto Bridge so pretty easy to get anywhere you need to. Would stay again.

I can confidently endorse the other positive reviews of this hotel - don't be discouraged by its 'star' rating. It is a gem, mainly due to the wonderful hospitality and central location. After a couple of weeks travelling so far this felt like a stay with family, Ambria and Stefania made sure we were welcome and comfortable at all times.... More

For what you pay, this hotel is definitely worth the stay! Pros: great location right by Rialto and within easy walk of the main sights. The staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful and will tell you all the best places to go and give you helpful tips on the area. The two ladies are very passionate about Venice - and... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
