Having stayed here before, this was our first choice for an ideal base in Venice. Although we had only two nights on this visit, this just has to be the most convenient, comfortable place to stay. Eleonora is the ultimate host, every helpful with advice and suggestions, but not too intrusive. Our room, the Green Room, was super comfortable with... More

Spent 3 nights at this comfortable quiet B and B. We stayed in Amber room with lovely views down a minor canal that saw gondolas passing during the day but quiet at night. Eleanor's was a perfect host, helpful, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Her restaurant recommendations were spot on. Cannot fault this quaint place to stay. Breakfasts catered for all... More

My wife and me spent 3 nights at Al Teatro. It's the first time we go in a B&B and it was a wonderful experience. We were feeling like home with the warm welcome of Eleonora and the chat with her in the morning when having breakfast. The situation is great with the frequent passages of the gondolas. It was... My partner booked this 4 night stay as a surprise for me, and what a surprise! Everything (and I mean everything) was absolutely wonderful. He had arranged ahead with Eleonora for a super speedy water taxi to pick us up from the airport and deliver us to the door of the apartment. What an adventure :) I cannot urge you... More

Eleonora was a fantastic host. From helping with enquiries before we even arrived to making sure we had a great holiday every day. At breakfast time Eleonora happily answered questions and helped us arrange our stay to ensure we had the best holiday we could possibly have. From the best Campanile to climb to the most delicious ice cream shop... More

Excellent for one wants to feel authentic atmosphere of famous, legendary on-water built city. Amber room with a balcony hanged right above the canal is something unique. Motor boats instead of cars flows through the canal, under your feet, and from time to time - gondolas with lovely japaneese girls inside, wieving to you.. Lovely place!

We had a fantastic three days in Venice, and our choice of hotel contributed greatly. We really couldn't fault it. Fabulous location, quiet but central overlooking canals, lovely, simple spotless rooms and our host Eleonora was full of helpful information and suggestions. All her food recommendations were excellent. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and love to go back.

We searched a lot of places to stay in Venice and Al Teatro B&B ended up our top choice. It was in a central location to wake up each morning and travel around the city. It was just far enough away from all the hustle and bustle of San Marcos square to enjoy the quietness of the city and visit... More

Eleonora is an excellent host. She made us feel very welcome from the beginning, showing us places to visit and where to eat on the map she gave us. The breakfast she served each morning was very good and at the same time she provided useful advice about what we could do that day. The room was spotless, spacious and... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
