My wife and I stayed at Al Teatro and were very impressed by the room and the personal service. We stayed in the "Amber room" which had a balcony overlooking the canal. The room was well decorated and very clean. Eleonora's personal service made the difference. Great communication leading up to our stay, good breakfast and coffee and then gave... More

This is our second time in venice and I had to talk my husband into returning because he had such a bad experience on our first visit! EVERYTHING has been perfect here at Al Teatro! This is Venice at its best. It is personal, comfortable, authentic, and the amber room balcony is absolutely entertaining with the gondolas passing under the balcony... More

Eleneora provided a friendly and informative welcome and was generally very helpful. The room was very comfortable with historic features and windows that opened out to a canal which had gondolas with singing gondoliers passing. The sight and music was fabulous! We appreciated having a little fridge in the room.

Knowing that Venice has some very luxurious hotels, we were under no illusion when we booked the owner managed B&B 'Al Teatro' which came highly recommended for its convenient yet peaceful location away from the Rialto and San Marco Square crowds. We loved our host, Eleonora Agostini who is Venetian born, and an incredible guide who is an amazing source... More

Centrally located opposite the Venice Opera House, Al Teatro is the perfect base from which to explore the many and varied treasures that this beautiful city and surrounding islands have to offer. We stayed in the Amber Room which is a good size, well furnished, has clean refreshing decor, air conditioning, Wi-fi and a balcony which over-looks the canal. There... More

This review isn't original... A lovely place, in a great location, close to all the major attractions but quiet and cool, so you can get away from the hustle and bustle of San Marco. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, clean with all the amenities you need. The building is over 200 yrs old, with many original features, including the beautiful... More

We stayed with Eleonora two years ago and everything we loved the first time, still applies. Great location, comfortable, affordable accommodation and the wonderful Eleonora. One particular thing that we like, is that all the guests sit around one table at breakfast and share experiences/ travel plans etc; It really gets the day off to a good start. Need advice... More

Our stay here was wonderful. We had the balcony room overlooking the canal and enjoyed our afternoon wine watching the gondolas go by. The location couldn't be beat- just 5 minutes to San Marco square and yet quiet and out of the way. The bed was comfortable, the breakfast ample, and our host, Eleanora, went out of her way to... A wonderful place to stay in Venice. Location is terrific, close to Piazza San Marco but quiet! Host Eleanora is welcoming and helpful. Clean and comfortable, reasonably priced, good breakfast. What more could you want? You can look out your window upon a canal often populated with gondola and, on occasion, listen to the songs coming from them. A great... More

We recently stayed with Eleanora at her incredibly charming bed and breakfast in Venice, Italy. The stay for the four of us (two couples) couldn't have been more enjoyable! We were there for 5 incredible nights and after touring all day, we usually came back to take a nap in the late afternoon, only to find we'd be lulled to... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
