stayed here with parents for two nights: the hotel is situated rather comfortable, 2 minutes walking from the railway station, close to Piazza del Romo, so you not have to carry luggage far. The staff thoughtout our stay was very friendly, helped in finding good local places to eat and answered other questions. the room was ok, good quality for... More

The rooms and washroom was clean. Beds were comfortable. Not so much noise! Beautifully decorated interior! Classic venetian decor. The only thing is that the reception is not open for check in until the afternoon. Very close to train station Venezia Santa Lucia. Shops and eateries are walking distance.

Stayed here in a triple room in September 2011. Very near the main station. Was here for a night only. There was no elevator so had to lug all our luggage up to the room. The other 2 persons were seniors so had to lug all the stuff myself. The hotel was on an open smelly drain with the entry... More

Stayed here for three nights. Great location - once you can find it. Rooms pretty small. A little loud at night. Bathroom clean and nice. Nice free breakfast. Staff members very helpful and nice. Would definitely recommend it as a short stay in Venice.

Great Hotel, next to train station-walking distance. Room was clean and spacious. We had a room with a big balcony with view on small park. Brekfast was also good. Staf great and frendly! We had no complains.

Great little hotel. Rooms are small but spotless and well equipped. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Few steps to the Grand Canal and loads of bars, shops and restaurants. Close to the mainline station and water taxis. Good choice of breakfast, again with lovely staff. Would definitely stay again.

stayed here for three nights. Arrived at 1.ooam in the morning after a delayed flight, was quite difficult to get into as went to main reception door (no. 381) but had to ring the bell next door at 380 to gain entrance. Night porter seemed a bit grumpy at getting woken up, but showed us to our room which was... More

If your main priority is easy access to the train station, in a pleasant location, you’re unlikely to find a better hotel than Il Mercante di Venezia. It took us 5 minutes to walk from St Lucia station (with luggage plus a baby), without crossing any canals. No bridges to cross, no queuing for boats, just a 5 minute walk.... More

Room is clean and tidy. Staff at reception counter was so nice. Location is great, very near train station, just few minutes walk. But the hotel sign is so small, and we can get to the hotel via a tiny pathway, make me feel not safe. Btw, it is convenient to go to any places from this hotel.

We all know that Venice is not cheap but we found this hotel with 40 EUR/night. The hotel is situated near the station in a quiet area but very close to restaurants, souvenir shops and Grand Canale. The staff is very friendly, they are speaking english and French as well. The room was small but clean and nice, decorated in... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
