This was a very good location, and that was the best thing about the place. It was very easy to walk to San Marco and to the Accademia region from here. There were a lot of stairs, even for healthy teenagers, probably about 70 steps, if not more, to get to the third floor. Water pressure was bad. No refrigerator... More

Had a reservation for this B&B but the washing machine over flowed and it wasn't possible. So, we were offered a different apartment to stay in. It was fabulous. We were met at the water taxi, even though we were incredibly late (due to weather). Had a lovely time in this incredibly beautiful city. Spendy ? Why yes, it is... More

We arrived a bit clueless and on the opposite end of the island and had to drag our luggage up and down bridges to find our place. At first, when we found the place, it was smelly and down a creepy corridor. Overall we enjoyed our stay, the breakfast was very tasty and simple. The view out the window is... More

This is a classy and comfortable apartment to stay in,situated right by a water bus station ( around one corner). Easy access to central Venice and its supermarkets. It comes complete with full kitchen and two large bedrooms. Highly recommended.

This little boutique and I do mean little with only 4 rooms is a little off the Grand Canal but very close to St. Mark's Plaza, the center of happenings in Venice. The young ladies who run or perhaps own the place are very accommodating and helpful. They will meet you at the Grand Canal to show you the way... More

Upon arrival at Marco Polo my phone rang and it was AnnaLisa, the owner, whom I had SMS'd on departure from the UK. She welcomed us and then SMS'd directions to the hotel from the El Giglio vaparetto stop. We actually disembarked at Marco Polo and wandered for 10 minutes to the hotel, which was easy to find with AnnaLisa's... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at Ca' del Pozzo in July for 3 nights. The location was absolutely perfect, it was a 5 minute walk to Piaza San Marco, when you walk right down stairs you're next to a central canal. There was a great little pizza place right down stairs to the right where you could get a cheap... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
