My partner and I have just stayed here for 4 nights. We were very disappointed with this hotel overall considering all the reviews. We were hardly spoken to by any of the staff or given any information of places to visit in Venice. There were mosquitos in the room every night even though we kept the windows closed. Therefore it... More

We found our stay very frustrating. We stayed for four nights in April 2015. Positives - The hotel is in an excellent location and rooms are clean but very basic. Negatives - We were woken by the noise building works everyday from 8am. We had building workers shouting continually outside our bedroom window and banging walls with their hammers. When... More

We spend our nights in Venice in this quaint little hotel. The staff was awesome and more than happy to help us in every way. We were given off the tourist path restaurants that were absolutely incredible. The included breakfast was great, but the service was exceptional in every way. Rooms were huge and quite for the most part. If... More

The hotel is in a great location in the center between Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square. It could be a tough challenge to find a specific address at Venice (even with a smartphone!) so that we were very happy to receive a detailed description how to find the hotel via email the day before we arrived. Renovating work results... More

We stayed at this hotel for three nights while we explored Venice. Our room was spacious and lovely. I enjoyed the large, antique furniture. The bed was comfortable, there was lots of hot water and everything was spotlessly clean. Our hosts were most accommodating.

The location was perfect, right between Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square. Luca, our host was beyond helpful! We picked the perfect place to stay during our visit. Will definitely stay again. Was worried about finding the place but just got off vaporetto at Rialto bridge and walked around asking shopkeeps for Bareteri and we found it quite easily!

The location is excellent and near to the Rialto Bridge and Saint Marco's. The hotel sent us very specific instructions on how to find the hotel so we had no trouble finding them. The hotel is simple but nice. It was very clean and Luca (the manager) was especially helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice locanda situated between Rialto Brigde and Piazza San Marco. The staff is very nice and Luca is very helpfull. The room was very nice and breakfast was good. And real Italian coffee! The building is currently undergoing some refurbishments but this caused no problems. We had a very nice stay and should we return to Venice we will definitely... More

Just returned from a three night stay at Locanda ai Bareteri and we were very pleased with our choice. The hotel is ideally located, very central with lots of good bars and restaurants in the close vicinity. Luca is lovely, very helpful and attentive. The room was a good size with a modern bathroom. The building is currently undergoing some... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
