We only spent one night in Belle Époque in August. Hotel was clean, cheap and in good location, close to bus/train station. The decor was tacky and rooms were quite dark and small, shower cubicle was tiny tiny. Aircon worked like a charm though. Breakfast that we had included was basic, not very tasty and there was a long queue... More

This little hotel is in the N.E section of Venice. It is a perfect location as it is close to the airport shuttle drop off point, the station and the waterbus pick up point. Although a fair way from the centre, it is a bustling, busy location with plenty of restuarants, shops and bars. To get to the centre, we... More

When arriving in Venice via the train, it can be overwhelming to get your bearings and find where you are going, the last thing you need with lots of luggage and a small family is another trek on a boat to reach some of the other hotels that are situated closer to San Marco square. Hotel Belle Epoque is a... More

Absolutely horrifying. Do not ever go there. The room was in an attic and my boyfriend couldn't even stand upright in the shower. Staff was extremely rude. Overall very unpleasant experience. I stayed here 6 years ago and it was good. Unfortunately not anymore.

With our suitcases we took the #5 bus from the airport and got off at the last stop, about a 10 minute walk from this very conveniently located boutique hotel. (I suggest you hire a local porter if you have heavy bags since the bridge to the general area has only steps, no ramp.) Though we were very early for... More

Forget the language issue if there really is one. Not one of six staff members ever uttered more than 3 words. The front desk Signores need lessons in representing what they are employed to do. They are morose and non communicative, and I struggled to hear them. They all appeared disinterested, and one man looked dishevelled at all times- his... More

We were initially dubious about this hotel after reading other people's reviews however it was better than we expected. We travelled into Venice by train and it is literally two minutes from the station, which made our trip a lot easier. Our room was very old fashioned and still carpeted and in another location would have disappointed us but it... More

The hotel is very convenient for the Grand Canal, train station and cruise terminal. The rooms are quirky - ours was decorated substantially in gold but attractive with high ceiling and a spacious bathroom. Very powerful air con. Breakfast was excellent and served in a pleasant dining room. We paid £30 each for B & B in high summer -... More

The hotel Belle Epoque is close to the Train station and a few meters from the Vaporetto lines. It is situated in one of the main streets with a lot of cafés, shops and places to see. The rooms are (typically for Venice) small, but cosy, and nice decorated. Single rooms means Double room for single use, which i recommend... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
