A small hotel though well located was extremely understaffed.I had a suite room for which I had paid quite an amount, but it was sad I still had to bring my luggage to the reception myself, get my own ice from the bar etc etc.One of the other member who was accompanying me was surprised to see a person in his room... Even though this hotel was a little more expensive than the other hotels, I am glad I chose it for my stay in Venice. I was only there for a night and it was ideal location as it was just a minute's walk from anything. Open the hotel door and you face restaurants, bar, gelato bar or step onto water... More

Lovely clean hotel with great access from the waterways. Room was comfortable and spacious with good ensuite. Handy to St. Mark's Square, in the heart of Venice, and handy to restaurants, shops etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. We chose this hotel based on previous Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed!

The Dona Palace was everything we expected after reading the Tripadvisor reviews. Ideally situated close to St. Marks Square, right on the canal which passes under the Bridge of Sighs. The gondolas pass right by and the water taxi can deliver you and pick you up at the back door of the hotel. Our room was surprisingly large and overlooked... More

A very comfortable and friendly hotel, ideally situated near to St Mark's Square. Very suitable for wheelchair users. It has a canal-side terrace, with gondolas constantly passing, which is far better than the usual "juliet balcony". A private water taxi can take you directly from the airport to the steps of the hotel for 120 Euros. Travelling around Venice with... More

Very nice hotel with a wonderful patio on the canal. The rooms are very nice, with comfortable beds. The staff is very friendly and gracious. They offer a great breakfast buffet. The hotel offers a commentary tour of the glass blowing factory on the island of Murano.

We booked hotel Dona for one night, and by far it was the best stay ever. We took a water taxi from the train station and it brought us right to the hotel. Wonderful staff and fast check in. The room was beautiful and had some prosseco on ice waiting for us. We had amazing views of Italy from the... More

Our travel agent booked this hotel for us, we arrived by boat. Walked through a terrace which turns into a bar in the evening, unbeknownst to us. We couldn't sit there unless we want to pay cover charge for it. Which is a shame! The staffs are nice, some nicer than other. On the night we arrived we were told... More

Luxuriously large rooms made for a nice retreat from the crowded "streets" of Venice each day. Staff could not have been more accommodating. Sent us to excellent restaurants with reservations and a step by step directions. And warned of where not to go. Most importantly they served with pleasure. Would go back for sure.

My daughter and I stayed at this charming hotel for a Mother's day trip to Venice Clean and cozy with a very convenient location to Square. A little dated decor but very charming. No complaints at all. Also private landing was convenient for early morning water taxi to airport.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
