There are strengths and weaknesses of this hotel. LIKES and DISLIKES: 1. The marketing department does a great job in the presentation of the hotel especially in it's website, they gave a surprise gift (a bottle of champagne) for my friend during the time of our stay it means they know their guests. But the downside to it is that... More

Excellent stay at the Dona Palace. Quiet and very comfortable room with air-con and wifi. Fantastic location, right next to St Mark's Basilica, Doge's Palace, gondolas and plenty of places to eat and shop. Staff were all polite and friendly and did everything they could to improve our stay - recommending tours, printing skip-the-queue vouchers and providing packed breakfasts on... More

We stayed 3 nights in a junior suite mid July 2015 at this hotel. Very good location in San Marco square. Walking distance from harbour where the public boat takes you from airport. Spacious room, good breakfast, very welcoming and helpful staff. The wi-fi connection was unfortunately a bit unstable.... When leaving the hotel, we got taxi-boat from the hotel's... More

A good location and very good staff helped to make up for the shabbiness of this hotel. The entrance lobby looked very tired, walls were scraped and plaster missing. The bedroom size is good and the air conditioning worked well, the beds were comfortable but the bathroom was barely adequate - the taps were very difficult to turn off, the... More

We have stayed at two other hotels in Venice, both nice and on the Grand Canal, but we liked this one better. Even though we upgraded our room, it was much nicer than expected. Two rooms with beautiful high, hand painted ceilings, a large bathroom and a view of the canal and the Bridge of Sighs. The breakfast room was... More

Arrived to this hidden gem by private water taxi…greeted by a most helpful and friendly staff. Our 4th floor room was sunny and beautiful with several huge windows that opened to overlook the canal. Loved hearing the music and singing from gondolas. A delicious strawberry tart was waiting in our room with a lovely note congratulating us on our Anniversary…nice... More

A small hotel though well located was extremely understaffed.I had a suite room for which I had paid quite an amount, but it was sad I still had to bring my luggage to the reception myself, get my own ice from the bar etc etc.One of the other member who was accompanying me was surprised to see a person in his room... Even though this hotel was a little more expensive than the other hotels, I am glad I chose it for my stay in Venice. I was only there for a night and it was ideal location as it was just a minute's walk from anything. Open the hotel door and you face restaurants, bar, gelato bar or step onto water... More

Lovely clean hotel with great access from the waterways. Room was comfortable and spacious with good ensuite. Handy to St. Mark's Square, in the heart of Venice, and handy to restaurants, shops etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. We chose this hotel based on previous Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed!

The Dona Palace was everything we expected after reading the Tripadvisor reviews. Ideally situated close to St. Marks Square, right on the canal which passes under the Bridge of Sighs. The gondolas pass right by and the water taxi can deliver you and pick you up at the back door of the hotel. Our room was surprisingly large and overlooked... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
