The Hotel is at great location. Centrally located and within walking distance to most of the places. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Our flight was delayed by 3 hours, but they waited for us to do the check-in. The rooms are slightly small but comfortable. Overall, a great place to stay. Would definitely stay again at this hotel.

This hotel is in a great location. You can walk to pretty much everywhere. The staff were very nice and gave good information and directions. We only stayed for one night and it was everything we needed. Internet works great from the lobby and the room. The shower got hot, which I love. If you are taller than 6'1" you... More

A little tricky to find but in a perfect position. Centrally located and within an easy walk of everything. The owners are fantastic. Very friendly and accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable. If you have problems with stairs, then this may not be the place for you as there is no... More

My two friends and I stayed for two nights at Laterna di Marco Polo. It is located very close to St. Mark's Square. The two owners were very nice and helpful. The free wi-fi worked well in the room, which is a nice bonus. The simple breakfast was good and filling enough to carry us through to a late lunch.... More

The rooms were fine and relative to the *very* central location were quite quiet. And let me say - I don't think there could be a more perfect spot to station yourself during a visit in Venice. The place may be modest yet is cosy, comfortable and clean. Ok, the TV could probably use a few non-Italian channels (we had... More

This is the perfect location if you want to stay in central Venice and explore. It is so close to some of the main tourist sites and close to vaperetto stops. The room seemed very traditional with exposed wooden beams and shutters. The room was an excellent size, bed was comfy, bathroom clean with some complimentary toiletries and the room was... More

As a base for exploring the main tourist areas of Venice, the Lanterna is pretty hard to beat, situated as it is only a couple of minutes walk from the Rialto area, and about five minutes from St. Mark's Square. The hotel's spice-named rooms (we were staying in Vanilla) are quaint but comfortable. Ours had exposed beams in the ceiling,... More

A very small hotel built into a protected 17th century palazzo. Run by Guido and Riccardo who couldn't do enough for us. When I say the hotel is small it has only 8 rooms and the breakfast area has only four tables. But the location and the atmosphere of the hotel make it a jewel. One to go back to... More

We couldnt have been happier at the Lanterna di Marco Polo! When hotel hunting we found so many of the hotels to be upwards of $700 a night. This place, for less than 1/3 that, offered everything we could have wanted. We also could have stayed cheaper and shared a bathroom, which we didnt want to do. It is located... More

We really enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent near the Rialto Bridge. Guido greeted and made us feel welcome. The room was clean and comfortable. The air conditioner worked great. Room was a little dark and there is no elevator/lift so be prepared to tote your luggage. This is a 3 star hotel with 5 star location and staff.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
