Very well located hotel, close to San Marco Square and good eating places nearby. We were a party of 4 women in 2 rooms situated in the annexe, a few doors away from main hotel. Room and bathroom were spotless and bed very comfortable. Breakfast , served in main building, provided a good choice of cereals, some fruit, cold meats,... More

This was a great little hotel just yards from St Mark's Square. It is a separate annex further down the alley from its parent hotel so you need to go there to check in and to have breakfast but it's only 15 yards or so. It is up old authentic Venetian stairs and there is no lift so if you... More

I would like to reply to all the negative reviewers for this hotel, yes I agree there was stairs, but theses were fully carpeted and with handrails, and come on this is Venice and not many of the smaller hotels are blessed with lifts, you are also aware when you book the hotel does not have a lift. Yes it... More

We were booked into Hotel Castello, but we were miserable due to allergies (musty and weird perfume sprayed everywhere) and noise, so the staff was very accommodating and moved us here. Though still a bit musty, the air quality was much better here. Nice sized room and bath and clean. Location is unbeatable by San Marco. Additionally, Venice is so... More

We booked the Locanda Correr though a package deal with the airline we flew with and having looked at the reviews I thought it would be a good choice. The location was good I admit, however there are plenty of hotels in the vicinity. From opening the door to the lobby, I knew it was a mistake. It smelt very... More

For anyone looking for a central hotel in Venice but on a budget then this one is ideal. The location could not be better, 2 minutes from St Marks and contradictory to other comments very easy to find if you do a little research beforehand. Most people deride this type of hotel but you should consider that if you are... More

Locanda is the sister B&B for hotel Castillo. As long as you know that, it's not too difficult to find. Despite a check it at 1pm, my room was not ready. After grabbing lunch, I was able to check in. Locanda has lots of stairs but the bellman carried most of my luggage. The breakfast was ok but nothing to... More

This place is old school. If that's what you are into then by all means, stay here. It took us almost 2 hours to find the place first off. It is extremely hard to find and not well marked (by the way it's marked with a dirty light fixture above the door with little writing in an alley way-not the... More

I was travelling to the Locanda Correr with my two teenage children and was concerned to read Grace P's review the night before I left. When I arrived my first thought was the alley was very clean and I found no mosquito problem within the room. Yes the room/hotel was 'basic' but being in the annex was no problem at... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
