After only 3 hours at this B&B, I was so uncomfortable that I had to leave. I've stayed in quite a few hostels all over Italy, and none of those were as bad of an experience. To start, the receptionist watched me, a relatively petite girl traveling by herself, lug 50 lbs of luggage up the two flights of stairs... More

I am very well traveled and fairly picky, so this 5 star review doesn't come lightly. The staff is phenomenal...the right amount of friendly and accommodating. We were underwhelmed by the nightlife so they gave us a bottle of wine after dinner one night. The place was very cute with a lot of character. The entryway had a picturesque courtyard.... More

The location first and foremost was the buying point of this affordable yet cozy B&B. Everything was clean, staff very friendly & informative (the polish girl....sorry forgot her name), room size was awesome, prize was reasonable given the season I visited, rooms and other facilities were spotless. Despite the busy season and the whole of Venice was swarming with tourists,... More

5 minutes to St. Marco Square, very good for people who like to see sunset and sunrise over there. Especially nice during the carnival. The rooms and bathrooms are so clean, providing a comfortable environment. Only problem is the breakfast was bad...

It was a nice and a really clean hostel, especially the bathrooms were pretty clean so I didn't have any problems during my stay. If you are on a budget but still want to stay in a good and clean place, Venice Hazel is the best choice. Also it's very close to Piazza San Marco and other attractions. The only... More

pros: good location, comfortable, REALLY friendly staff, good value, breakfast, free coffee and teas, nice showers, hair dryer, safe, comfortable beds, supermarket down the road, safe con: pay for sheets Venice is really overpriced tourist trap so don't bother staying for more than a day or two. HOWEVER, this place was a really good value and enjoyable stay.

The B & B Hazel has individual as well as dorm rooms, but the dorm I stayed in was huge, comfortable, and had great luggage lockup facility. The house is reached by crossing a courtyard, which was nice. The location was excellent, especially when you consider the price. I also received good advice and help from the staff. They were... we booked this place, because we thought it's a good deal for B&B, but actually it is a hostel. stayed for 4 nights in a double bed room, pictures showed a real double size bed, but the room we got had a narrow, very uncomfortable bed with a hard mattress. paid extra for sheets, but they don't have blanket covers. we... just a 5 minute walk from the main square and a variety of good restaurants. Very friendly and helpful staff with good tips about what to see. Felt very safe and secure even in a dorm room. clean bathroom and kitchen.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
