I booked hotel Emeralds place Venice via booking.com came to check in. The owner of the hotel Emilio Millo (there is no reception - just him by appointment) didn't check me in. Wrote and signed paper that he cancel booking by his will and do not charge me for this booking. Through me away. Few days later he charged my... More

dear guest this review you wrote is completely false , you've paid through an agency , and then if you decide not to stay with us at the check - in because you did not want to pay the tourist tax ( obligatory in Venice and in Italy ) , we can not refund the customer for your personal reasons... Emerald Palace would not give me a refund on my two night stay even after my Dr spoke with them. I broke my arm and ankle in Germany, had to cancel two weeks of reservations in Italy and Switzerland. Mateo was not understanding, didn't even offer a credit. I was in hospital for two nights and cancelled immediately. I alerted... More

Right in the middle of Venice near some of the main sights. Was a small hostel with a good kitchen and bathroom. It was really well kept and the main man Emilio was nice and helpful. Perfect accommodation for allowing you to not spend too much but get a real feel for Venice. We had the only double room.

Lovely comfortable bed with great bathroom and kitchen facilities and bathroom smack bang in the centre of Italy, five minutes from Rialto bridge and all the other beautiful sites Venice has to offer! Emilio was very friendly and helped me out a lot with a tourist map and recommended how to get around the city and what I should do... More

This is set in the heart of Venice with a short walk to everything. Cash machine 30 steps away, restaurants 5 steps away... canal... jump out of the window :) The staff are very nice! Emillio is also very helpful and has the initiative to help you if there is something you should know Communication is brilliant, Emillio seems to... More

My friends and I are young women in our twenties. We came in February (for Carnevale) in the off-season, so it was very quiet. The place is kind of hard to find. Address given is inaccurate on google maps. (Booked through Booking.com, listed as Emeralds Place, same thing.) DIRECTIONS: Take the bus from the airport to the Piazalle Roma (water... More

After reading all the negative reviews about this place I feel like I've stayed somewhere different! Me and 3 other friends arrived at the hostel not really knowing what to expect, it was a little dark and mysterious as it's upstairs in a big stately home and the ground floor is almost abandoned (i think for flooding reasons). We were... More

We booked one double room for three nights in May 2014. When arrived we found out that the address that was given to us was slightly different, after five minutes Mr Emilio, the hostel representative, turned up and in 5-6 minutes he took us to the right place. This hostel has great location just two minutes from the Bridge Rialto... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
