From our arrival to our departure the staff at this hotel were so friendly and helpful, our room was cleaned daily and the bedding and towels changed daily. The best start to the day was the breakfast/dining area we could not fault the service or breakfast. We would definitely recommend this hotel for it's locality/service/friendliness of the staff and other... More

I stayed here with my husband and we managed to find it using Google maps on our phone but don't know if we could have found it without. Venice is a complete maze and everyone will get lost at least once in Venice but I think that's all part of the experience. The hotel was in a brilliant location and... More

Stayed here with family in August 2012. Don't expect a brand new hotel with modern amenities. The room was spacious though, very spacious. Great location. I'd say its a short walk to San Marco Plaza - that's if you don't get lost as it's hard to get around Venice if you're not familiar. Good places nearby to eat. I'd stay... More

On the bright side, this apartment is close to everything in the beautiful city of Venice. However, rude personnel on the phone. Asked for a desk in advance and got none. Tiny apartment. No daily cleaning service, and they threw away my contraceptive pills when they came to clean. On the first day, they called to ask if they could... More

A quaint and comfortable little hotel, not too far from the main sights without being too busy or noisy. Unfortunately, due to flooding of one of the rooms we were displaced to their other hotel, which was frankly a fairly anonymous and uninteresting place. Unfortunate, as we enjoyed the one night we had there.

I chose this hotel because it was close to the exhibition grounds of the Architecture Biennale which was the only reason why I was in Venice. I think Venice is too full with tourists and does not need more people visiting the place for an exhibition as such. The people working there, including the staff of this hotel, must think... More

Great neighbourhood, nice and quiet at night and lots of choice of good restaurants, and just 10 minutes stroll from San Marco square and 5 mins from the Zaccaria waterbus stop, which costs E20 for a 24 hour pass and gets you around the islands. The property has 5 floors, with apartments on 4 floors and 4 b&b rooms on... More

Location is near water taxi stop on canal. Minutes to St. Marks Square, loads of good neighborhood restaurants. Room was good sized, but TV was tiny. Good bath facilites. A/C was a problem, the remote was not in the room and the setiing was much to warm for American tastes. The good news was that we could open the windows... More

The location was perfect, just outside the tourist area, yet close to everything we wanted to see. The staff was very friendly and even provided us with glutten-free items for breakfast. The hotel was clean, quiet, and well taken care of. I would definitely book there again.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
