Venice is a mysterious city, but what a city it is!! Palazzo Schiavoni is the best place to stay in Venice. It is accessible by boat and also has another door to walk out of onto the street. We stayed in one of their self contained apartments that also included a concierge. The room looked like it was out of... More

Very friendly staff , lovely clean and spacious rooms with plenty of storage for those that like to unpack. Shower a bit small and water pressure not very good but the water is nice and hot. Heating works well, almost too good, had to open the windows to let some cool air in!! There is a supermarket a minutes walk... More

Arrived early but canal-side room was ready - just like the brochure - decorated ceiling, curtain swags, padded bedhead and very comfortable bed. Breakfast in our room the first few days, served on a massive tray - hot frothy milk, plenty of coffee in the pot. The breakfast room was opened once kitchen maintenance completed and the buffet selection was... More

We were in Palazzo Schiavoni last August for two mights. The location is very convenient. The staff super friendly and helpful. The room was small, but confortable. Steps from Piazza San Marco. We had AC, very important that time of the year.

This quaint BnB was a wonderful spot in Venice for the price. Although it had older decor, it was very clean. The highlight of our stay was the service. Nasir was a fabulous host who made our entire weekend wonderful. He arranged tours, dinners and served a wonderful breakfast. Thank you, Nasir, for going above and beyond.

Liked the hotel very much. Very quiet location on the canal. Only 10 min walk to San Marco square. Very clean and helpful staff. Will definitely choose it next time we travel. Mainly, the hotel consist of self-services apartments which, judging by the single room we stayed in, should be rather nice. The hotel has only few single rooms, and... More

Big spacious rooms but a noisy air conditioner. Great location. Decent breakfast, but not so fun to look at the washing machine while eating. Overall it´s good value for your money. I might stay there again.

The Palazzo is a little hard to find but once you do you will love it ! It fronts one of the myriad of back canals & the sound of water lapping the stones is lovely through an open window at night . The rooms are spacious , comfortable & very clean . I stayed in an apartment rather than... More

Very quiet and convenient hotel. one can walk to central attractions and also take the vaporetto nearby... The room and the bath are clean comfortable. The stuff was very nice helpful. For my needs the hotel was excellent. Breakfast was nice but boring. Each day same food.

Good location, friendly staff, lovely classic room (surprisingly spacious) with a view of the canal. Good breakfast except for the coffee. We moved to the top room which had spectacular roof top views from the bed & the bathroom. Very characteristic. Overall a lovely place to stay but a bit expensive because of the Biennial.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
