I booked this hotel before the really bad reviews started appearing on tripadvisor and was quite worried when we checked in! But really, for a one star hotel it wasn't bad. Great location, the room was clean and quite big (we had one of the en-suite rooms and the bathroom was clean too) and the breakfast they provided, whilst basic,... More

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I read previous reviews and decided that surely it cannot be THAT bad, so I booked anyway as most hotels in Venice are way to expensive so we settled for something basic. I have stayed in many B&Bs and hostels and this is by far the worst I have ever stayed in.... More

It was nightmare. because of this hotel and staffs, Venice is also horrible city for me. this is worst hotel I've visited ever. They don't have Any service and they just charge money every each things. In addition, they are rude and when I ask and request something, they always say No with silly reason.

This hotel served as our final stop while backpacking around Europe, and despite some of the dives we stayed in, Hotel Minerva really was somewhat disappointing. In Venice everyone is pretty much hell-bent on screwing over the tourists and this hotel is far from an exception, with extra charges for EVERYTHING. each room seems to have an en-suite, which is... We were extremely dissapointed with this hotel. The only positive point is the fact that it's so close to the train station. Breakfast is not served, and our room was accross the street from the reception - we had to ask them to unlock the door every time we wanted to go in. We knew we had a shared bathroom,... More

I cannot judge many things about this hotel simply because I didn't stay in it. But I paid for it. I arrived in Venice late in the evening, and at least I can say the hotel location is excelent, but that's it. Checked in and paid, and after that the guy just takes us out of the hotel and guides... Because of the handy location-easy walk from the railway station - I have stayed here every time I came to Venice. However, I will probably look for another hotel next year. I think the owners, though pleasant, have become a bit complacent. There is a relaxed & apparently friendly attitude, but not much Service, as such: Manager sitting watching women... More

The location was very close to the train station which was very convenient since we arrived at 2am. There was no AC which would've been okay except that our room was insanely stuffy. I don't know how or why but it was like 10 degrees hotter than in the hallway. We opened our windows but it was directly onto the... More

I spent a couple of days at this hotel. It is very conveniently locate near St Lucia Station on the most touristic street in Venice. I had a room on the rear side and it was comfortable, clean and quite. Price is very good. Staff is great. The owners are kind and ready to help in any way. I definitely... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
