I am so happy to have chosen the Hotel Foscari Palace for my 3-night Venice stay! My room was a suite with direct views of the Grand Canal. As a solo traveler, I certainly didn't need such a large suite, but am so glad I splurged. The price was very reasonable for my January visit and well worth it! The... More

We have stayed there about 5 or 6 times and the hotel is great: the rooms are clean, comfortable and the location was great!! Of most importance: we were stuck in Venice for an additional two days due to a Blizzard in New York, and Miriam, a woman who works the front desk, was beyond helpful in getting us a... More

Ideally situated in Cannaregio, the "real" Venice, across the canal from Mercato. Big, comfortable rooms. Two lovely terraces. Winter prices are more than reasonable. There is a kind of "corporate" feel to the way it is currently run: some fixtures beginning to get run down, ugly and tasteless pictures on the walls, bad music piped into the salon, some inferior... I do really love this hotel! It is near Ca D'Oro canal/ferri terminal, just one block behind, walk 2-5 mins. So the view is immediately beautiful canal view. The location is perfect, it is near McDonalds, supermarkets, and other local restaurants. My favorite is Fried Land, small restaurant near the hotel, just walk by 5 mins. Me and my husband... More

I had a dream that some day I'd stay in Venice, in a room overlooking the Grand Canal. Not only did I achieve that, but it was very affordable. This hotel is centuries old. We decided to upgrade to a higher end room as the price was still quite reasonable. The suite was larger than my apartment at home. The... More

The Foscari Palace is right on the Grand Canal, ... just steps from the Ca D'Oro Vaporetto Stop ... There is also a Gondola Dock right next to this hotel which gave us a chance to watch these talented Venetians in action from our suite. Breakfast was included and was one of the best that we had anywhere in Italy...Kudos... More

This is a very nice, comfortable hotel at a moderate price. The room we got was spacious, tastefully furnished and extremely comfortable. There were a few things not working properly but we did not complain. One of the receptionists was decidedly grumpy but we were seldom in the hotel anyway. The area (Cannareggio) is one of the few areas in... More

I went to Foscari Palace with my boyfriend a few days before Christmas. I must say we were extremely happy to be their guests, the room was amazing, the service excellent, the breakfast abundant and the location perfect. We had the best time ever there and we will most certainly recommend it to everyone I know.

Great location on the Canal Grande but the bathroom can do with a serious makeover! The shower looked like a space ship from the 90's and unfortunately there were a few light bulbs missing...something that the hotel staff could easily attent to! Good size room and massive bed (perhaps too big for the size of the room) but very comfortable.... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
