Decided to hop on a train up to Venice at the last minute from Rome, hotels can be very expensive in Venice but I found this place very good for value. It's an old hotel, no lift but not a major issue, it's very central, 4/5mins from Rialto bridge, nice welcoming staff, very friendly. Paid a little extra for a... More

Our room was on the 3rd floor with lots of stairs, but it was lovely and quiet and the staff were always friendly and helpful. Decor was nice but a bit run down with stained carpet and lampshades :( Bed was very hard too, so a revamp of the rooms would make this a 5* for me. Breakfast was a... More

We closed the rate for 1 night, then we closed a rate for another night and finally when we paid, the charges were completely different without any explication. They increase the rate and didn't respect the rate initially closed. If you can, don't stay here.

My brother and I took our mum on a cruise of the Mediterranean for her 89th birthday. We stayed at the Goldoni on the 25th of September before going on the cruise. The cruise was great but the hotel was a disappointment. Rooms nice enough but they gave us a room on the top floor so my mum had to... More

We loved the location, the room, the breakfast and the staff. We were within walking distance of everything. The staff was very accommodating; they answered our questions and made dinner reservations for us. Although we don't recommend the terrace for breakfast because it's really not a terrace, we had no problem having the breakfast brought to our room. There is... More

This hotel is in a great location and the breakfast was nice but the room was not nice at all, the carpet had stains all over it, it was hard to get into the shower, the bedding was doubtful as clean and to top it off I had to carry my own luggage up 4 flights of stairs, as a... More

People in Venice have never heard of the word service or 'customer' or 'hospitality' Seriously, if you are going to run a Hotel, you need to get Gordon Ramsay in to sort you out. We got there after 2 days flying from Australia, NO HOT WATER. You can't really have rooms like this and charge people anymore...... can you?? We... More

Though the place was close to Rialto bridge we had to struggle a bit to actually find it (but thats coz the way Venice is... small roads!!) After a warm welcome we were shown to our room... which was comfortable and quite spacious!! There was absolutely no view from the windows but it didnt matter coz we hardly spent anytime... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
