We stayed at the Casa Sant'Andrea B&B/budget hotel for four nights a the beginning of June. On the plus side it is really conveniently located close to Piazzale Roma where there is the main bus depot and also a major stop for the vaporetti or public water bus service. There is even a water bus stop right outside the hotel... More

We stayed in Casa Sant andrea prior to our taking a cruise from Venice. The hotel was perfect for our needs as it is very near the People Mover station for cruise passengers, Piazzale Roma where buses stop, the vaporetto stations and the train station. The rooms may be basic but it was large enough, very clean and comfortable. Since... More

We stayed here for 2 nights. Our room was a good size with large bathroom. We had a double and single bed in the room. The only thing was the wardrobes separated the room so we were separated and couldn't lay in bed chatting. It was nice to see the original beams and exposed brickwork. The room was very warm.... We stayed here in this 2 * hotel in a double room for 3 nights in April 2012. First impressions of the room were that it was quite small but it was comfortable and impeccably clean. Ideal for a couple planning to use it as a base, as we did....we were up early and back late to make the most... More

Lovely spacious room and very large bathroom - all very clean. The hotel is very well situated to the bus terminus but not impacted by noise. There are a lot of stairs but, so has Venice itself. Breakfast was continental - a little more variety would have been nice but it was nice and plentiful nonetheless. Enjoyed a very pleasant... More

This 2-star hotel offers a very good quality/price ratio. My room was basic but comfortable and clean. The hotel is close to the train station (it takes 5 minutes on foot); you have a ferry stop to Murano on your doorstep and just round the corner (Piazzale Roma) you can get on ferry boats to the city centre. Breakfast is... More

The rooms were nice, clean and rather spacey. The food was quite nice/average. Very good location as it is a couple of minutes walk from Piazzale Roma, the Grand Canal and the cruise boat docks. Our view was out the front, we watched The Tourist one night on a cruise boat's huge screen :D The staff were not very helpful... More

I don't normally write reviews but I just wanted to share my experience to assist other travellers. The reason for my trip to Venice was to participate in the marathon. I was looking for a relatively cheap hotel to spend a couple of nights- I did not expect much. To make this review short and sweet I would recommend this... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
