Ok so maybe a lot of this is due to it being Venice but..... Positives: not too far from the train station, though it seems a long way when we arrived.. wifi fast and generally dependable. Negatives: tiny room, the guy who designed it should get an ward for fitting everything in. The room is also very noisy, 24 hours... More

Booked this hotel after reading the reviews here and was quite disappointed. Knowing hotels can be quite expensive in Venice, but with the price we paid for, hoping it would at least be decent. The same price we paid for this 1 star hotel, I'm able to stay at 3 stars in other cities. The toilet is quite cold and... More

This hotel is ideal for a short stay. Foremost, it is very close to bus and train - especially useful in a city where wheeled suitcases ale close to useless. Rooms are small but nice, clean and for a very reasonable price. Hotel has no services (it has wifi), even breakfast is served in nearby caffeteria. But what do you... More

This visit definitely exceeded my expectations. From the outside, this hotel does not look like much, but after climbing the stairs, the cleanly finished reception area welcomes a weary traveller. Albergo was extremely helpful and friendly and completed the checkin promptly. The room was small, but provided the elements needed for a good stay; a firm but comfortable bed, a... More

amazing service from them, then the room is spacious and the bathroom new! Loved it I do recommend! Walk fro bus or train station. Walk to aqua bus and we did walk to San Marco! Amazing location. The room has both ac and heather, we did not use any, near several restaurants, hard to choose from so many!

The hotel room was quite pretty and comfortable. Very nice shower and the area was also good, not too far away of everything but still far away enough to not be bothered by throngs of people passing by at night. The only thing that was a bit uncomfortable was the bed, it was really really hard and the pillows extremely... More

Anywhere in Venice is expensive or cramped or very noisy. Tolentini manage to be in a convenient location, relatively quiet (occasional noise from restaurant downstairs and people on the thoroughfare) and not extortionate. Friendly staff, reasonable size rooms and good restaurant downstairs (not part of hotel). Downside, the breakfast (at nearby cafe) is acceptable but not the best and the... More

My wife and I, along with friends, stayed here in Venice for 4 nights. The hotel was a bit hard to find, I called the proprietor, Andrea, and he gave directions. Once we got straightened out, it was very easy to find. The room was very clean and comfortable. We were on the 2nd floor away from the street (Rm.... More

We had a heck of a time finding this place tucked away down a small side street, and you have to go up a set of stairs to reach the reception area. But our hosts were gracious, spoke English well (to accommodate our utter lack of Italian), and our rooms were nice. Skip the free breakfast though - it's just... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
