I wanted to stay in a hotel in Venice with a canal view of some sort. I looked at lots of hotels and they were incredibly expensive - to the point of obscene - and the pictures showed most of the rooms to be quite chintzy with lots of busy patterns. Now I know you go to Venice to see... More

Charming House - name is one of few flaws - delivers on all counts. Stayed in suite - not really - down the street from main building and will return - even at fairly high prices. Only things that should be changed - laundry service should obviously be available and a request for ice should be satisfied promptly - rather... More

I swore that I'd never stay at a designer hotel again but the Charming House in Venice changed my mind. Yes it comes with all of the crazy design gimmicks you expect like bedside tables made of silvered tree trunk but this one has location on its side. The main hotel DD 724 is I'm sure fine, but I stayed... More

This was our first trip to Venice and we could not have picked a better hotel. It was in a wonderful location near the Peggy Guggenheim museum and in walking distance of other attractions. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Our room was fabulous, very comfortable and peaceful with a lovely balcony overooking the museum.

Very clean and comfortable hotel in a perfect location for seeing and exploring Venice. Easy to walk everywhere plus vaporetto pier less than five minutes away. My favourite area of Venice near the Peggy Guggenheim. Staff are very friendly and made good recommendations for places to go and eat too. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and brought to our room... More

All the staff went out of their way to ensure that our stay was a memorable one. They could not do enough to help. Lovely breakfast with very tasty fresh strawberries. Lovely rooms, although make sure you get a canal view if that is what you were sold. We were moved straight away to a room with canal view as... More

Stayed here for four nights on my first trip to Venice. Location was ideal, decor was pleasing on the eye and staff friendliness was impeccable; very helpful with a great level of English, which aided us a great deal. Breakfast was fresh and homemade and overall, the stay felt 100% authentic Italian, through and through.

We stayed for four nights at Charming House DD724 and we were thoroughly, erm, charmed. Very friendly and helpful staff, great room, lovely breakfast (not a huge selection, but very good and delicious). Perfect location in quiet Dorsoduro: easy to get to by water bus from the railway station or the main bus stop for the airport buses, with the... More

My wife become sick the moment we arrived on our three day stay in Venice. Needless to say she didn't leave the hotel once, and I was there most of the time as well. Typically being trapped at a hotel would be a nightmare. You are in a foreign place, with foreign people, with no familiar creature comforts... However at... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
