We opted for a 2 bedroom suite for 6 adults. The room was very spacious and had 2 bathrooms! Like other hotels in Venice, the room is victorian style, which I don't particularly care for, but it was clean nonetheless. Great location just seconds from St. Marks Cathedral. Staff was very friendly. All hotels in Venice are expensive, but this... More

The hotel was really good, and perfectly placed for St Mark's Square. The only gripe I would have is over finding the bloomin' place - all we had was an address, which is NOT the address for reception. You need to look for Hotel Royal San Marco - I think they've joined two hotels together. Google maps shows this just... More

We arrived at the airport just after 9.00 in the morning so decided to make a leisurely way to the hotel by coach, water bus and on foot with luggage. We did this stopping for refreshment at the change spots and arrived in Piazza San Marco about 12.30 and so went nearby for a drink then at 1.00pm set off... More

DO NOT TAKE the Murano glass factory tour that the hotel offers you. Even though it's free, once they get you over there on a water taxi, they have a salesperson meet you at the dock, take you for a tour, and they never leave your side. They push you to buy glass the entire time. It was aggravating. Their... More

The hotel is in a great location. A few problems we had: AC did not work. Our suite was very hot and technician came a few times and couldn't fix. We need to go earlier to a tour and the breakfast area would not accommodate us by opening a few minutes earlier than 7:15am. Very complicated place to find. As... More

The first thing to note about this hotel is that the address is not the address of the lobby and will lead you to a dark alley. This hotel merged with a couple of other properties under the name Royal San Marco. That is where you have to check in. The suite was well appointed but felt a bit neglected.... More

The place is 5 min walk from the san marco water taxi station and behind the san marco square. (not even a minute from the square) So close yet difficult to locate using google maps. Also the check in is in a hotel with a different name. we were on the second floor with two big rooms and a small... More

Boy, based on the reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect, but this room/hotel exceeded our expectations! First, the room itself (a junior suite) was exquisite, with a beautiful foyer, a palatial room with exquisite details, a comfortable bed, a flat screen TV, bookshelves (with books), two tables, and a wonderful bathroom. Second, the location cannot be beat - directly... More

I was here for one night with my partner meeting friends to begin a tour of Italy and had a very pleasant experience. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was very nice. It is in a nice location for exploration, though far from the airport and train station.

We stayed for 3 nights, booked 4 rooms in total for family and friends. Everyone was really pleased although we did move one of our friends to our complex as they were on a different building. It was really nice having the extra room with sofa so we didn't have to go out every night and it was welcome when... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
