The first thing to note about this hotel is that the address is not the address of the lobby and will lead you to a dark alley. This hotel merged with a couple of other properties under the name Royal San Marco. That is where you have to check in. The suite was well appointed but felt a bit neglected.... More

The place is 5 min walk from the san marco water taxi station and behind the san marco square. (not even a minute from the square) So close yet difficult to locate using google maps. Also the check in is in a hotel with a different name. we were on the second floor with two big rooms and a small... More

Boy, based on the reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect, but this room/hotel exceeded our expectations! First, the room itself (a junior suite) was exquisite, with a beautiful foyer, a palatial room with exquisite details, a comfortable bed, a flat screen TV, bookshelves (with books), two tables, and a wonderful bathroom. Second, the location cannot be beat - directly... More

I was here for one night with my partner meeting friends to begin a tour of Italy and had a very pleasant experience. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was very nice. It is in a nice location for exploration, though far from the airport and train station.

We stayed for 3 nights, booked 4 rooms in total for family and friends. Everyone was really pleased although we did move one of our friends to our complex as they were on a different building. It was really nice having the extra room with sofa so we didn't have to go out every night and it was welcome when... More

We stayed 4 nights and the location of this hotel/apartment was fantastic, just off S. Marco. I think the location was reflected in the price, as it was not cheap. This was a huge apartment which was part of the hotel and included a nice breakfast. Apartment consisted of Bedroom, Livingroom, Kitchen and Bathroom. In very good order, although didn't... More

Dear Guest, thank you for your beautiful review about your stay! We always try to give our best to our guests in order to satisfy all the exigencies. Unfortunately the kitchenette in the Suites is not availble for safety reasons; in facts, if you had a look above the kitchenette there are fire-relevators ready to make all the Hotel's sirens... Cons: far from train station.do not try to walk with luggage.it is not worth it. Just take #2 vaporotte to s.marco and walk from there.is only 2 minutes. Check in is a little convoluted..you have to check in from hotel royal san marco about 5 min walk. Pros: good breakfast. it's a suite and we got a suite with balcony... More

Dear Guest, thank you for such beautiful comments! You're absolutely right! Taking line number 2 of the public Vaporetto and getting of at San Marco, is the best option if you have luggage, particularly if they're heavy! But if ou're equipped with small cases and you like walking, the Strada Nova, which goes from the Railway Stn until Saint Mark's... More

We rented the two bedroom suite for our family of five for about 500 Euros a night. This was in June during peak season. My parents and sister took another room in the same hotel. The service was friendly but not excellent. The breakfast was forgettable. My parents had to change rooms twice because of broken air conditioning (they said... More

If you are travelling with kids, this Hotel is a good choice. Suites can easily accomodate four adults and Piazza San Marco is barely 50 metres away while San Marco boat station is a 5-7 minutes walk. On the other side, you can walk from hotel to Rialto bridge on the Grand Canal in about 10 minutes. Suites are decent... More

I have been to Venice several times now and have stayed at five stars (Westin Excelsior) and two stars (Rialto Hotel). The Torre dell'Orologio Suites was an awful experience I pray none of you have to deal with. First let me get the "good" out of the way... The location is very central to everything which can be good and... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
