I tought I made a good choice by booking this hotel at a good price since spending only one night in Venice in San Marco area...The problem is it took me an hour to find this hotel...Was reading the other comments on the hard to find location, and tought, well its part of the fun...Actually, its not...It is actually very... Hotel has wonderful location and well solved contact with reception not so far from hotel's door. We felt style and history during our visit here. Probably one of best hotels near Basilica San Marco with so cute price :)

We arrived to check in and there was a small map directing us to another hotel to check in. It would have been nice to know we needed to check in somewhere else and have those directions posted on their website. Upon entering our room the smell was intense. There was a couch in the room that smelled strongly of... More

Not sure what the opening photo on this hotel is....but it is NOT the one you will get. Many reviewers write on the value of and location of this hotel compared to others in Venice. While that may be true, I just found this to be horrible. Impossible to find - you need a blood house; bizarre to check in... More

This was one of the hotels we stayed at as part of a package deal with European Destinations. The hotels in Florence and Rome were decent but I was disappointed with this one. The rooms are clean but oddly situated. You actually have to check in at the hotel Bella Venezia around the corner and they take you to your... More

As other reviewers have highlighted, don't be alarmed by the initial view (it is inside an apartment building a block away from Bella Venezia where one has to check-in). It is very well located (4 min walk to Rialto waterbus stop). Once you get into the building it is very clean and quiet (although beware that the one canal facing... More

We had to do the check in and out in another hotel called Bella Venezia; they took us to our room around the corner. They gave us a room that smelled SO BAD! I think it was the humidity, you can see it on the walls (paint raising and dark spots). I tried to complain but the guy said he... More

We visited this place in the winter time before the major Xmas festivities. The place was friendly, beautifully decorated and close to the central square but because of its location was nice and quiet at night. Brilliantly located near to the water buses and the Rialto bridge.

Location is great: right in between Rialto and San Marco. Breakfast is just around the corner in Bella Venezia: buffet with large choice. Rooms are little bit small and dark (due to very small street, not much daylight), but very clean with a proper safe, fridge, enough soaps, free WiFi,... Comparing to all the very expensieve hotels in the city, this... More

Residenza Ca' San Marco is a gem of a hotel centrally located between Rialto bridge and Piazza San Marco. This small bed and breakfast is just a block or two away from the main shops which line the alleys between these two major icons of Venice. Once the "tourists" leave Venice you have the quiet of the city to yourself.... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
