The hotel's front desk staff are friendly and its location excellent. But the positives stopped there. The windows of Room no 3, which I stayed in, were not double glazed, and with just a small heater in the room, we had to endure 3 nights of freezing temperatures.

I have been writing reviews on trip advisor for a few years now and this is the first bad review I have written. My husband (who was born in Italy), and I traveled to Rome, Florence, Venice this past trip and the only hotel I had a problem with was Hotel San Maurizio. We arrived exactly at check in time... Great Stay here albeit only for 2 Nights, we were upgraded on arrival as they had overbooked at No extra charge, bigger room, bigger Bed and the room was elegantly decorated. As said in the title that this Accom is a short walk to piazza San Marco, The Tourist Heart of Venice and very close to Sant Angelo water Bus... More

Service and people were very professional and kind. Thank you very much for the good welcoming, we felt fine. Our room was a bit noisy due to wooden floors and noisy people staying into the room above ours. A bit expensive.

Stayed at this place for 2 nights as part of a backpacking trip as hostels were not much cheaper. The room that we got had a double bed, single bed, a closet and a desk. There was no air conditioning, however there was a ceiling fan which offered a little relief from the sizzling July sun. There was also a... More

I was a little sceptical after reading other reviews but we had to agree on most points. The location is fantastic, that's probably it's only plus. The directions to get you there are very exact so you shouldn't have a problem finding it. Walking distance to all major sight seeing attractions. Staff were helpful and friendly. The air con is... My two friends and I have just returned from travelling around Italy, staying in different hostels. Venice was our final destination and as expected the most expensive. On our arrival the reception staff was friendly and polite, we then went up to our room to find it rather unpleasing. The window was broken and had paper covering a hole, it... More

The room although a bit small was very well decorated and clean. We had air condition which is very useful during summer. It is situated in a very good location. The staff were very friendly. We really enjoyed our stay there.

This hotel was the most expensive place we stayed whilst touring Europe but that's venice for you! After staying in some very clean hostels and hotels this was a bit of come down. Rooms were quite old fashioned and needed a deep clean. There was nothing massively filthy about it but it didn't seem clean. I had a quick check... More

Very central location gives this hotel it's stars. The staff were also polite. Yet sadly that is as far as my appreciation extends. The room, admittedly large, was veryThe hot and stuffy. To not install air conditioning in a climate where temperatures routinely rise above 30° seems a fairly massive failing on the part of any hotel. The bathrooms smelt,... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
