Whilst the location of this hotel is very good, and breakfast is fantastic, unfortunately everything else is a bit lack lustre. The bed covers, table and shower were dirty when we got there, and the wifi is practically non-existent. It appeared that if you were in a room in the same building as the reception it looked a lot more... More

Very comfortable hotel in an excellent location - 20 minutes stroll to St. Marks Square and far enough away to avoid the eye-watering cost of food and drink in and around the Square. The staff recommended three restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel for the duration of our stay and every one of them was spot on (still pricey... More

Its about 10 to 15 minutes walk from San Marco. We enjoyed the walk and preffered the quieter surroundings. Close to Arsenale taxi stop. Lots of restaurants and shops around. Breakfast not up to scratch.Wifi is unreliable. Staff quite helpful. All considered it was reasonable. Rooms were a pleasant surprise contrary to the reviews posted fir this hotel.

We arrived at this hotel and were happy to see that they accommodated us with a room change since they did not have us in a room with two beds. However, the room was very tired, walls covered in stains as was the carpet. There was no internet in the room and we picked hotel based on internet. We did... More

I dreamed about going to Italy for a long time. We saved up and off we went September 2014. We were told we had to go to Venice so we did. The visit was great but the hotel was a little disappointing. We were glad we were only sleeping there 2 nights. After we carried our suitcases up two flights... More

This hotel ruined our trip to Venice. The hotel is in the worst possible location. The staff at the front desk are grumpy in the morning, and inconsistent- he stopped me on the way to breakfast on day 2 out of three of our stay to say our reservation was invalid??!. The rooms are small, dark and have no A/C.... More

Friendly, clean hotel. Continental breakfast. Staff helpful and suggested reasonable places to eat that offered discount to hotel guests. Close to Arsenale boat terminal so only 10-15 minutes walk to St Mark's Square.

Stayed at the hotel last autumn because it's near to the Venice Biennial and the Arsenal aerie. I really agree with Cindy from Portland: "The worst customer service ever"! All the rooms were SO dirty, dark and smelly, bathroom looked like never been washed, and the grumpy old man who worked in the reception at our arrival was extremely unfriendly!... More

Stayed here for a short break in July 14. The hotel is easy to find if you get off at the Arsenal, turn right, cross two bridges and hotel is up a lane beside the church. Staff all very helpful, all spoke English and were happy to answer any questions and make suggestions for us, including giving us some discount... More

By far the worst customer service we have ever experienced in all our years of traveling. When we came back from dinner and seeing the city, 10:15 pm, our key would not work in our lock. We could not get in our room. The front desk man told me to try again, and I needed to pull the door when... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
