We paid for a "canal view" room at the Mercurio Hotel in Venice, but when we arrived we were told it wasn't available due to construction. We paid the same rate for a "roomier" (an amenity I didn't care about) room. I had extensively read reviews of hotels on San Marco. My experience was not uncommon! My advice is to... more

We have just spent 3 nights at this fabulous hotel only minutes from St.Marks square, and once you get to know your way around, only a few more minutes from the Rialto bridge. We arrived at nearly midnight on the Friday and were met at reception by a fantastic chap who was only too happy to get us checked in... more

Excellent small hotel. Great location, easy access to all attractions. Room was small but very comfortable. The best part of our stay was the help that Monica gave us, she showed us where to go to see the real Venezia, away from all the tourists, tried great restaraunts from her recommendations. Would definetly recommend this hotel to anyone. more

I've read enough other reviews of this hotel to infer that there must be some inconsistencies with the room sizes, but I have to say I was shocked by how big our room was, by European -- and especially by Venetian -- standards. I traveled to Venice over Easter week of 2009 with my husband and 5-year-old daughter. We booked... more

We were pretty bummed out about this hotel, but the upside is that it was not that expensive and was right in San Marco. We surely could have done better for the same money, but maybe a coule of blocks further from the square. That doesn't really matter that much since you expect to be walking around all the time... more

Chose this hotel based on the bulk of recommendations on TripAdvisor. Location and service both very good. Front desk staff always very helpful. Room as predicted was pretty small as was the bathroom, shower too small for a 6 footer. But hey, this is central Venice, and you don't expect to spend a lot of time in your room anyway.... more

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Venice and wanting to have excellent accommodatino without paying top dollar. Hotel Mercurio is in an excellent location, close to many tourist spots but off the beaten track so it is quiet and peaceful. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The rooms are tidy, the sheets clean, the bathrooms new.... more

This hotel is in a great location - close to the Rialto Bridge and Saint Mark's Square (less than 10 minutes to each). It's on a quiet little alley, as a lot of places in Venice are, and right next to a canal. It was a little difficult to find when we arrived in the dark around midnight (streets are... more
