This is a very basic hotel, with riendly staff. Only downside, if your are travelling with luggage is: a) the tortuous route to follow when disimbarking from the Vaporetto, which includes narrow streets and a bridge, and b) the lack of an elevator. On the upside, quiet room with air conditioning. Not cheap, but that's Venice after all..

Lovely little hotel in a great location. Expensive for a 3 star but it is Venice after all, nothing is particularly cheap. Basic in a sense but a perfect base for us. 5 min walk to St Marks, slightly longer to Rialto. Rooms small but comfortable, the one down side being the size of the shower. Hotel staff very friendly... More

Hotel Mercurio was a wonderful stay in Venice. I believe their advertising and pictures represent it exactly as it is in real life. We stayed in a canal facing suite on the 2nd floor, which I highly recommend. Very spacious with lots of room to spread out. Wonderful little balcony with view of the canal with gondolas going by all... More

Good's 1. Breakfast is decent 2. Staff is quite minimal & helpful ( they offered to help us with our luggage to our rooms ) 3. Take a room with the canal view ( though it is quite noisy too ,as the canal has quite a bit of traffic ) Bad's 1. No Air-conditioning during May ( & anyways there... More

When the door to our room opened for the first time I was blown away, but NOT in a good way. Complete false advertising, the pictures on the websites are a huge misrepresentation of the actual room. I sat on the end of our bed and my nose was 3 inches from the wall. It was dark, cold, felt like... More

The Hotel Mercurio is close to the Piazza San Marco, the opera house, the waterfront on the Grand Canal at the San Marco vaporetto stop, and scads of shops and restaurants. It is classic Venice, on a narrow street, with Venetian hosts, narrow staircases, decent rooms, and a pleasant breakfast room with coffee made to order. The hosts provide good... More

So Helpful, quite exemplary in comparison to normal standards in Italy (No Offence Intended). The Owner herself took our bag to the room, she was indeed strong! We got a good deal when booked directly with them. I would request for a Mini Bar in the room though as this is very basic facility now a days. However still very... More

I booked 4 nights at this small hotel for a short vacation with my wife but had to change the dates and unfortunately the hotel refused the change neither and the refund. I tried with Booking customer care and after a long nogetiation with the hotel they accepted my new dates for 3 nights out of 4 I paid for... More

This is the second time I have stayed at the Mercurio. The hotel is spotless, it is in a quiet setting which to me is inspirational, however you need to be aware there are different standards of rooms and as we booked through Hotels.com we did not get what we wanted. We specifically aske for a twin bedded room and... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
