We booked a room online basis what was shown in the pictures but then when we reached we were asked to shift to a hotel nearby and told that rooms here are full. The option given was really bad and we asked the manager to give us the room shown on the website or we will look for another hotel... More

We too were given excellent instructions on how to find the hotel. Venice is not like other cities thankfully. We were asked for cash, and after reading the feedback below I guess I know why. That money was deducted from them, not their bankcard provider, so they no longer provide the service. Thats ok with us. ATMs are everywhere. We... More

If you prebook via a hotel booking website ensure to cancel 9 days before your arrival date, not 7, as this establishment will not give ANY reimbursement. Not ideal when every penny counts when travelling. Even when it's peak season and they would have no trouble filling the room . Unimpressed.

I booked for the wrong date and they took care of me. They went above and beyond after my mistake. The location is great, easy walk to everything. They booked tours for us and recommended great places in the area. Can't say enough good things about Ca del Dose.

Location was good - 3 min walk from Arsenale station, staff gave good advice on getting to and from the airport easily. Room was small but good enough for a couple of days. Our stay was really tainted by our check out - we informed the staff the day before that we had a train to catch and needed to... More

Excellent location with helpful staff when they are on site. Room was comfortable and typical of two star European hotels (no lift, small shower, etc.). Was very surprised when I was quoted rate in EURO but the charge to my CC was in dollars at an inflated rate (about 4% over bank rate). I would stay there again but would... More

I wanted to pay in EUR but the machine processed it in sterling without giving me an option, or asking for a PIN. To make matters worse, the slip had a rubric, which I refused to sign, saying that I had been offered a choice of currencies -NOT TRUE - and said that I had accepted the conversion rate, which... Hotel is in a great location, minutes from the boat stop, grand canal and the St Mark Square. Room is decent sized considering it is europe. Internet is charged ar 7 euro for 3 hours and is slow. Useful if you just want to browse facebook or make plans for the next day but cannot stream videos at all. Shower... More

great location in venice. close to the riva and vaporetto stops, and an easy walk to st. mark's square. also close to a few good cafes and supermarkets. the hotel is a good value and we especially liked the air conditioning (hot in venice in july!) and nice tv. just wish the wifi were free and could be used outside... Great location, central, welcoming owners, helpful with a lot of info. Rooms were great, clean, terrace, bathroom inside. We received a lot of details regarding location and how to reach from the airport.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
