The location is great if you like to be a bit out of the main tourist tracks. But if you plan to see a lot the center maybe not your best choice, even if there are 2 vaporetto stations really close. Breakfast is ok but a bit basic (coffee is rather bad for being in italy). Rooms are clean but... More

Had a great stay here. The staff are really helpful and friendly, and emailed ahead to ask how we wanted our beds arranged in our triple room. Our room was lovely with a view over the lagoon from two of our windows and the canal and the city from the third. It is in a great location just minutes from... More

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of April and we were very pleased with the location, as reviews have stated it's a couple of minutes walk from the Arsenale stop, exit from waterbus, turn right, over 2 small bridges, both with ramps and you are there. We had a superior room with lagoon view, the view is nice... More

Just returned from a 3 night stay & it was everything we had hoped for. An efficiently run, clean & comfortable hotel in a quieter area but within walking distance to central attractions. The staff were most helpful & responded to our needs immediately. Our room had lovely views of the lagoon & we were very close to some good... More

Wonderful stay, staff very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Location excellent, not quite as touristy as other parts, but still only a few minutes walk to St Marks Square. We arrived at train station, got a vaporetto pass for 72 hrs which lasted our stay( excellent value for money), no 1 goes all down grand canal to Arsenale stop. Breakfast buffet... More

Just a ten minute walk away from St Mark's square to the west and the Giardini area to the east, this lagoon facing hotel is ideally situated for a stroll around the busy streets and bridges of Venice and it's quieter parkland. Two bridges (equipped with ramps) away from the Arsenale water bus stop mean that you can be on... More

Hotel Ca' Formenta was a great experience. Location is excellent is really close to Arsenale stop (Vaporetto) which you can take line 1 or 4.1 from St. lucia station to get to the hotel. Please be advised to buy the Venezia Unica card or the 24hrs/48hrs/72hrs pass to used the vaporetto if not you will have pay 7 euros overtime... More

My third visit in a number of years and Ca Formenta does not disappoint. I got good and prompt emails back to my questions, when booking. The hotel is a little out from the centre, but that's a plus, in my book. Cheery concierge took us and our bags to the room and didn't hover for a tip! Room 203... More

The location of this hotel is very good. It is located in a quiet part of Venice and still very close to San Marco and other touristic places. I was also easy to get to the hotel by ACTV boat. We had a room with lagoon view which was really great. Another nice thing was that there were plenty good... More

We stayed here for 5 nights in early February, 2015. We had chosen this hotel because of the location and that it fit nicely in the budget that we had. I had called up the hotel before making the reservation and requested for a room with a view of the lagoon from a balcony. Turns out they had only one... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
