We stayed for 4 nights in January. We were given a free upgrade on our room. The room was small but very comfortable and nicely furnished, including a flat screen tv. There was also free WiFi throughout the hotel. There was a very nice bathroom, however the shower stall was very small, which was surprising as the bathroom had plenty of... More

Upon reading tripadvisor reviews I had very high expectations for this place but those expectations were shot down almost immediately after walking through the door. The staff member on reception was not very welcoming and almost belittled me and my partner as we gave him our details. In all honestly I think the reason could be because we are a... More

We visit Venice frequently but this was the first time we stayed at Hotel Ca'Formenta. The hotel compares very favourably with most of the the other lagoon facing hotels and we liked its location - about 10 minutes away from busy San Marco. We had a spacious and comfortable room on the second floor with a small balcony and lovely... More

We stayed 2 nights, and had a great time. The hotel is nice, in good condition and with a good breakfast. The staff is very helpful and the location is great. I highly recommend it, good value for money.

The hotel is in a good location. About a 10 minute walk to St Marks Plaza. Hotel was clean and quite. Staff was helpful. After I made the reservation through a third party website I got an email from the hotel with directions on how to get to the hotel. If you have ever been to Venice you know how... More

This small, friendly hotel is superbly located for exploring Venice. It is right by a vaporetto stop and a few minutes walk from St Marks Square. The room we had was well appointed and although the decor was a little tired the room was clean and comfortable. The self-service breakfast offered a good choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, cold meats,... More

If, for you, the word hotel means gym, sauna, hairdressing salon and poolisde bar, this is not the place for you. But if you're OK with simply a clean high-ceilinged room with nice furnishings, swagged floor-length curtains in Venetian yellow and blue, with a clean modern toilet and shower, with a self-service breakfast comprising almost everything you could want ...... So I'll start by saying there's nothing wrong here, there's just nothing right. The hotel is quite run-down, and isn't in the best position - it's a 15 minute walk away from the "centre". The staff aren't hugely friendly and the (included) breakfast was sub-standard, even by budget standards. The rooms are clean, it's on quite a "cute" street, and... More

Loved this quirky hotel. Ideal location with its own mooring. Lovely view, warm, friendly, helpful staff. Clean room with adequate breakfast. Negative side - needs a facelift especially the mooring area!

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
