It's to the south of Venice, over looking the lagoon, at the end of the Grande Canal, a lovely view from the seats at the front of the hotel, and the rooms at the front. Our room was at the side, it was a good size for 2 people, excellent air conditioning, which was a must because there was a... More

Wonderful stay. Perfectly located just a short walk from the busy St Marks Square, on the lagoon and in walking distance of all sites. Also easy to navigate back to after a long day exploring. Ask for a lagoon view! Breakfast was a delicious European style breakfast and left us satisfied for our long sightseeing days. The only thing we'd... More

Having visited Venice in September last year we wanted to see more of it and to enjoy better weather than when we were last here. Well, the weather was fantastic (in the 30's from when we arrived until we left, and the choice of hotel was really great. We had a standard room on the first floor which was basic... More

I made a reservation by Booking and we expected a ground floor room. At the check in the reception told us they reserved a better room on the first floor at the same price. That was really fantastic news. The room was tiny, bigger then excepted. Toilet was not small as I could thought and has everything you need. Bed... More

Good location close to the main waterway within walking distance of St Marks Square. Small hotel, but friendly and helpful staff. Given a bottle of prosecco on arrival as it was our honeymoon. Rooms were clean but a bit dated with traditional Venetian decor. Felt very safe and nice square with restaurants and shops at the front. Receptionists happy to... More

Pack, jump in a taxi boat at Marco Polo airport and ask for Ca Formenta. You land at the hotel, you have booked room 406 and you will enjoy a breathtaking view over the laguna and San Marco. You are away from overcrowded S. Marco although at a walking distance from. The hotel is very clean and calm, people do... More

Very good place, good location, clean and friendly and reasonable price for Venice. A short walk from Piazza San Marco in one direction and the park / Biennale area in the other, which is also a more "real Venice"-like area, where local people actually life, not just hordes of tourists.

Situated at the Garibaldi street (which was once an open canal but was filled out by Napolean Bonaparte) between Arsenale and Giardini vaporette stops, where the crowds almost fade away, this small cute hotel is perfectly placed for enjoying the beauty and charm of Venice. The hotel has 21 not-so-large rooms 4 of which are facing the lagune with small... More

Arrived by water taxi to the hotel's private wharf. Excellent welcome. Had a small comfortable room. Avoid the ground floor bedroom as the canal fill right up at high tide. The staff are friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfasts but as the hotel is popular it is difficult to find a table for 4 which we were. The best rooms have... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
