Silk Road is definitely more of a bed and breakfast than a hostel. However, the price was pretty great, especially seeing as we booked the week of during Carnevale. The location was also nice - it was about 15 minutes from the central areas and about 15/20 minutes from the train and bus stations. We stayed in a 4-person mixed... More

The Silk Road Guesthouse is a smaller hostel; don't expect something massive and flashy, like a Generator. Instead expect to feel personally cared for. The Silk Road feels like a well-kept secret in Venice. It has free breakfast (apples, coffee, toast, croissants, cereal) and the owner, Alex, is often walking around singing to himself. We arrived before the check-in slot... More

I booked this hostel because it had great reviews. Alex was great, however, our stay was miserable. There were A LOT of mosquitos in our room. I'm not talking about one or two. There were at least 20. All of our windows were shut, and we were forced to spend our night killing them on the walls and ceilings. I... More

Stunning, sunny, spacious rooms! Warmest, most helpful reception, and cleanliness, best location for running on the gentrified waterfront Zattere. Local wine and food places, small shops & collaterals of the Biennale nearby. Veg. and fish market a few bridges away. Don't miss!

First off, Alex is super nice, accommodating (let us keep our bags later on checkout day due to a camera left behind at a restaurant that didn't open until 7pm) and knowledgeable (gave us a great recommendation for a free walking tour). He started off our visit with a map and circled some must-see items, good restaurants and easiest routes.... More

I stayed for 7 nights there in a 4-person female dorm room. It's on the 3rd floor with 4 twin size beds. You get a small locker with lock and key provided for camera, handbag, and valuables but not for luggage. The breakfast is provided but is continental and rather skimpy. It's also within a narrow time frame if you... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here in a 4 bed dorm. All single beds, no bunks and a huge room. A big cupboard to put everything and the lock was supplied which was good. The best thing is the view! Omg the view from the room is amazing! If you paid for that view in a hotel you would be... More

I stayed at this hostle for two nights. It's right on the water so you always have some noise from the canal, but it is relatively quiet. No bunk beeds here, they are all singles in spacious rooms with free lockers. The breakfast is included, basic but sufficent. It is about a 20 min walk to St. Marc's square, right... More

This hostel was totally fine. The rooms were clean and it was reasonably located. This is obviously totally not there fault but remember it can be hot, hot, hot in venice. There is a small fan in the room but it was a bit too hot to sleep. Just something to keep in mind :) otherwise a good decent hostel.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
