No phone in the room in case of emergency. No wifi. No heating. No front desk to ask any questions: the front desk is only there from 8 to 1 ! The worst hotel stay in my life. I have no idea what the other reviews came from especially the one who says it was close to where they left... More

The place is very clean, location very good, in the center of historic town. Our room was nice with small but nice bathroom. After check-out we left our luggage there and picked them up befere leaving Venezia.

I would recommend this B&B place for anyone looking for a comfort but not expensive B&B in Venice. We staied two nights (augustus 2014) in this hotel and we were very satisfied about price/quality. It's also neerby the garage where we left our car and we could walk to the hotel.

We were staying one night in Venice and for that purpose Locanda Matir is perfect! Any longer might have been a problem. We discovered that Locanda Matir was hidden in a court-yard, down an alley that had a sign only if you were approaching it from the canal and not from the square! We checked in semi-smoothly – the receptionist... More

Locanda Matir is a pretty decent choice if you're on a budget. Stayed only 1 night in January 2013 and it was just fine for spending the night: room was tiny but very clean, and once we figured out how the heating system worked, it was warm as well. Bonus points for the fridge and tea/coffee maker. Breakfast was included... More

Horrible dirty small pokey rooms with dust and stains everywhere. A/c broken, fridge broken, shower broken, bed rubbish. Breakfast was a joke, toast and a drink, with a bowl of completely rotten fruit! Worst of everything was the noise! Every night we were kept awake until 3 in the morning with drunk noises local student. Place is located right about... More

We checked in on Feb. 3, and out at 6:45AM, Feb. 5. Staff is off after 2PM, don't worry, she told you the code in order to open the door. You have to be strong in order to climb the stairs. I booked 2 triple rooms for whole 6 family members. Nice bathroom.

Stayed one night. Room 204 directly above a noisy, smokey bar. Noisy until very late! A/C not working so room became an oven while windows were shut to block the noise and smoke. Actually left the bed to sleep on the bathroom floor to keep cool! Cannot reccomend. Feel like i flushed 150 euros down the toilet! Cant understand why... More

We arrived after 2 pm and found a note asking us to call a number to get the code for the door. We couldn't get our phones to work, so we asked a staff person in a nearby bar to call for us. We could then go in and found a note with our room key. Charming furnishings, very clean.... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
