This first class hotel is located conveniently just blocks from Piazza San Marco. With the widows open at night, we enjoyed the chatter of the gondoliers as they past just below our room. The Staff at the hotel was most helpful and friendly. The breakfast on the patio was bountiful. and the patio/bar provided an excellent place to relax for... More

Each time we are in Venice (which I love), we stay at this hotel. Just off St. Mark's Square, all of the city is conveniently walkable. The staff is friendly, courteous, and very efficient. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and provide quiet canal views. The complimentary breakfast offers ample selection and should satisfy any guests needs.

First and foremost, let me say this hotel is epitome of professional service. Located close to the Grand Canal, it's a great place to stay if you want shop, explore, or get lost on purpose. The rooms aren't modern, but the staff works very hard to make you feel like a VIP. From the evening turndown service to the key... More

This is the second time that I have stayed at this hotel. It is centrally located between Saint Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge, however it manages to be removed from all the havoc and noise caused by crowds of tourists. The continental breakfast, which is included in the room price, has an ample selection of items that are constantly... More

stayed here for 3 nights with my husband for our honeymoon before flying onto Naples. We had a lovely room on the 3rd floor which looked out over the breakfast area and onto the canal. We could hear the singing Gondalier from the room which made it very authentic. A lot of original features in the hotel which we loved.... More

I stayed at this hotel as part of at Gate 1 Travel vacation package. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly and accommodating and the food in the restaurant is very good. The location is midway between the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's. An easy walk to all of many attractions including gondola rides just steps away... More

Venice was the first stop on our honeymoon, and we were booked in at Hotel Bonvecchiati. Our holiday was booked through Citalia so we had a shared water taxi from the airport of which took us to the Rialto Bridge area. We were gave a photcopied map which did not have every street name on so it made finding the... More

The location is perfect as it is very close to the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal and St Marks’ Square etc in the other direction. We took a water taxi (€100) from the airport and were taken direct to the landing stage of the hotel where we were met by a porter who took our bags. (Effortless). We also... More

My wife and I spent a glorious seven full days the beginning of June in Venice staying at this hotel. It was a great choice – not super fancy but still luxurious and what one would expect from a four to five star hotel. No need to repeat what is written in previous reviews as per excellent location, pleasant friendly... More

the hotel was ideally located two minutes from St marks square and five minutes from the Rialto. Staff were very welcoming and the free upgrade to a superior room was welcome. Spotless bathroom and fresh sheets and towels every day was a plus. The breakfast on the terrace was lovely however we would have liked coffee or tea served at... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
