It is not terrible and certainly not a hostel as it was mentioned earlier. Was tricky to find, inside is tired and smelly, functional but very basic. There is a local club/bar playing loud music till late and you almost feel as if you are sleeping in the street! and we were on the 3rd floor, cant imagine 2nd or... More

There are so many hotels in Venice it can be a bit overwhelming where to choose. I was studying in Venice when my partner booked to visit me and hoped to get us a nice hotel. Here's what we got: Palazzo La Scala is in a convenient location for the Rialto bridge/markets and San Marco square/basilica etc. Great if you're... More

When booking, we chose this hotel because of it's location and because it is a 4-stars hotel. Location is awesome. Good things about this hotel stop there. This is clearly not a 4-stars hotel. I slept in better 1-star hotel. No staff at this hotel. You must check-in and checkout at another. The room is noisy, we can hear all... More

This is the annex to the main hotel, which you have likely already learned by now. It's down a little alleyway about 5 minutes from the main hotel, and it is a 10 or so minute walk from St. Mark's Square. Great location. It has a nice modern elevator and a nice staircase too. The room I had was little... More

My fiance and I, booked this hotel after reviews game this 4 stars on the site. upon arrival to this "hotel," l, it was immediately obvious this was not the case. the lobby's AC unit was leaking, a puddle was expanding on the floor by the minute, mold on the walls. There is actually not even a hotel staff member... More

Shot distance walk to the Rialto bridge and st.marcs square. Hidden down a small pathway it's easy to find once you gather your bearings in venice. Close to all shops and restaurants. Tide clean hotel with free wifi. You have to go down the steet to another hotel for breakfast but the food is great and with a good selection... More

First the good news: the location was brilliant - between S. Marco and Rialto, and so close to the latter that it was easy to take our cases to and from water transport and hotel. We were provided with excellent recommendations for restaurants for dinner - the Bistrot de Venise close by and Diavolo e Acquasanta on the other side... More

Locando la scala is located in a narrow street sideways of Frabri. From the outside you think "what did I book now"? The inside is small but confortable. We were in a room on the forth floor.. There is an elevator. Bathroom is small and only one adult fits in. The bed was very good and the sheets are changed... More

I feel compelled to review this hotel based on the many negative comments on TA. About me: 1. I am an Aussie, 28yo and hubby is 30. 2. We are experienced travelers - currently on a round the world trip. 3. I have very high expectations. Why we booked this hotel: 1. Booking 2-3 days in advance. 2. Venice was... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
