Breakfast was very simple, with a good service. The location was superbe, which compensated fot the small and simple, but for this price I expect more

stayed here as part of my 50th birthday celebration. Yes there were steep stairs, no lift and adequate shower but the room was clean, beds made daily, breakfast is what is says on the tin - CONTINENTAL. Staff were very friendly and welcomed us. Would stay here again when in Venice - One word of advise please do not visit... More

Don't be put off by the trek up the narrow staircase and strange smell in the hallway(I think this is relative to the age of the hotel) This is a lovely intimate hotel which is very close to St Marks Square. Our room was cosy and we were delighted with our private roof terrace, there are only two rooms with... More

Ignore the bad reviews. The room is small but what do you expect in Venice? Great location friendly and helpful staff. 2 minute walk to the square and right off the vaporetto line. I would absolutely stay here again if we ever make it back to Venice.

After reading the reviews we were a bit worried about our stay but it really wasn't that bad. It is an older place but in a fantastic location with St Marks Square only 2 min walk and close to some really nice restaurants/bars/cafes. It was clean but fairly dated with a less than satisfying shower setup (no pressure, bit cold)... More

nice hotel, though rooms were quite dim and gloomy. I had to have every light in the room on to see the room would get really hot even in the middle of winter and the thermostat was broken (buttons ripped off, screen flashing) so I was unable to change it the wifi was not free and actually quite expensive (1hr=€2,... We stayed at Hotel Lux in early January and bearing in mind ALL buildings in old Venice are very small. we were very pleased with our stay. The staff were very pleasant and always had time to chat to you. We stayed in the main complex and as expected the rooms are very small but well furnished and very comfortable.... More

- The hotel is difficult to find - there is no lift and no body to help you with bags! - The woman who works at reception could not care less! - The stairs get progresively more steep and narrow! - there is not room to pass eachother in the room - food was aweful! - all decor outdated and... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
