Very handy for st marks square plenty of water taxis and water buses beside the hotel but so many stairs to get to the room shower was awful no matter how much you pulled curtains around it still leaked out so floor was like a swimming pool. Breakfast very poor. Staff wer nice, helpful, friendly.. Okay for one night only

I was apprehensive as I had stupidly only read the extremely bad reviews after I had paid the full amount. Our family party of 8 stayed here for 2 nights before taking a cruise. Ok, the word "hotel" is a very loose definition of this place. I would rather describe it as a tired room in a back alley. However,... More

Great location near San Marco square and very polite guy named Deian in reception. The rest terrible. Smelling very bad everywhere in the Hotel, broken window in the bathroom, broken bed, slept three of us together in the same bed, broken chair fridge doesn't work, carpets and the room very dirty, and there is no WiFi, you have to pay... Totally unique hotel near Piazza di marco (touristic city center). It has very nicely decorated rooms providing wonderfull atmosphere. it is like sleeping few centuries ago (but with modern amenities of course). Helpfull staff. We stayed there in January so it was even very cheap.

We definately do not recommend this hotel. Very dirty and not value for money. This hotel has definately put a damper on our Venice experiece. You can't say it is bed and breakfast because breakfast is a sweet bun a tub of yogurt and a cup of over roasted coffee.

We were told that venice was expensive regardless, but if we knew that we could spend 30-50 euro more to get a 4 star hotel we would have done that and avoided this place. They were nice, they tried their best, for instance they gave us free wifi, (because you have to pay for usage per device, which was really... More

Great hotel in perfect location. Catch the vaparetto from the airport to stop before St Marcos stop and a five minute walk with your cases and you are right in the heart of beautiful Venice. Minutes from all sight seeing destinations, great shops and restaurants. Rooms are a good size for Europe, bathroom clean and large. Continental breakfast included and... More

Rooms are cozy and the design looks like something out of the great Gatsby. Everything is withing a 600 meters of radius. The rooms are nice and little. Bring your own kettle, no kettle in room. The management is super nice and try their best to understand what you said. Sure its located in an alley but its venice, everything... More

First be advised no lift and I was extremely rudely told by Elaina that 3 star hotels in Venice don't offer "porter" services. If you are in your late 60's and have been traveling for weeks around Europe and you have 50 pound luggage + carryons and backpacks - this is NOT welcomed news!! Add to that we were on... More

The hotel is situated in the centre, breakfast very bad, we had a cupboard in our room full of cleaning products used by the staff, no lift, narrow staircase, no Wi-Fi unless you pay for it, very bad reception in the rooms

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
