The hotel is situated exactly opposite to the station. It is visible and easy to step in even if you have bit big luggage. The reception is in hotel canal and one has to get the key from canal only. All the rooms are in first floor. The very first room where we have stayed is the beautiful canal view... More

Santa Lucia railway station is just on the other side of the main canal. It was very convenient for us to catch our early morning train. EUR 110. - for a double room with breakfast is very reasonable in this much overpriced city. Not a luxury and the lady who served breakfast was not in a top mood in this... More

we stayed at Hotel Airone for one night during a Weekend visit in October 2014. We booked late so il was the cheapest deal we could get on the island. Saying cheap in Venice means three times the price you would get on mainland for less than a quarter the comfort. 120 euro for a double room without breakfast and... More

We stayed here for 1 night as part of our European motorbike trip. The hotel is a great location being only 300 yards from the main car park. We had a room looking out onto the canal. It was very small but had its own bathroom. I say bathroom it was a wet room and only 4 feet square but... More

The hotel is across the canal from the main train station. It is small and all on one floor, with the breakfast area in the middle. You have a very narrow set of stairs to walk up and no lift to get to the rooms. It all looks very dated, but the room was clean. We had a bathroom, but... More

The hotel is clean and we got out room cleaned and our towels changed every day. Our tv didn't worked but as soon as we told the concierge, we had it substituted straight away. We didn't book with breakfast but you could have it served with an extra charge of only 3 euro per person, per day. The position is... More

We stayed for three nights in August 2014. This hotel is the definition of budget and no frills. It was a good location, opposite the train station on the grand canal, easy to walk to so don't feel the need to get a water bus or taxi to it, it takes five minutes to walk. On arrival we couldn't work... More

hotel airone was our choice because it was very close to the piazzale roma and very economic. So we wasn’t expecting nothing special. But after booking the room we saw the comments and some of them was not very positive, if we can say so! So we were really worried if it was better to lose some money and cancel... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
