My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel during a backpacking trip around Europe, we booked the hotel as their website mentioned free tours, breakfast, washing, etc. Upon arrival we were told none of this was true. The hotel also mis-charged us and took extra payment from our bank. The hotel was not clean and very poorly located.

The hostel refused to honour the price agreed online. The staff were extremely rude and threatened to cancel my booking altogether. The facilities are terrible. There us a stove in the kitchen but guests are not allowed to use it. The man who works there is incredibly unfriendly and scowls at all the guests. No atmosphere. Too hot. Overpriced. Please... We stayed in this hostel for one night in mid Septemeber. Hostel was vedy good especially for the price - staff were very friendly and helpful and hostel was very clean. Good central location with easy walking distance to main attractions (san marco, rialto etc.). Closest waterbus route on grand canal is also less than 100m. Hostel had very good... More

Really good price for Venice and a very good location. A few weird rules like having to be out of the accomadation completley between 10am and 1pm but we would have been out then sightseeing anyway! For any affordable accomadation actually on the island of venice go to this place!

My partner and I searched for cheapish accommodation in Venice for days on end only to read horrific reviews of other places. We stumbled across this one through bookings.com, the reviews said it was hard to find and that it was dirty but they must be kidding themselves. Literally took us 3min from the water station (S.Samuel) to find it.... More

We booked the Venice Academy for two nights for the 18th and 19th of August. Our train arrived in Venice at around midnight and after about an hour getting pretty lost trying to find the place (it is very hard to find as precious reviews have mentioned) we turned up at a dark door down an alleyway with no signage.... Super differcult to find but once you get there its rather nice. Very expensive for what it is but the room is very spacious and the bathroom facilities are really good. Staff are very non existence and you have to pay extra for bed sheets which don't include a towel. However venice is hard to navigate anyway. Its placed in... More

They charged extra 8? for city taxes and bed sheets (not mentioned on their page) and the total price is pretty high for a hostal. The whole place is nice: beds, location, restrooms and the posibility of using the kitchen might help you save some euros. But still expensive for what you get.

A friend and I stayed at the Academy for 3 nights in April 2013 - we were very pleasantly surprised by the friendly welcome - it is quite a small hostel but there is a kitchen for those who want to cook during their stay and the bathrooms are very clean. The location is excellent - an easy walk to... More

The staff here were quite helpful, one even asking if we would like him to take us out which was very nice as being a group of four travellers we found it hard to find places to go out. It was in a very good location if you are getting around by foot. The bedrooms were very big and the... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
