This hotel has an excellent location that is very close to St. Mark's Square and is the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars. Unfortunately, this is the only good thing I can say about this hotel. The room was so small there was no room to walk and no where to put your suitcase. The beds were hard and... More

We were given directions to the hotel and got lost ... not good at 9.00pm in Venice dragging suitcases over bridges and flagstone streets. When we did find the hotel, it turned out we were at the wrong entrance and the staff would not come to help us find the right one ... very bad experience.

I read the other mixed reviews and was worried. All I can say is that if you want bigger rooms than you should book the Marriott and skip the boutique hotels. This hotel was exactly what I was looking for. A small, boutique hotel, beautifully appointed, with a super helpful and friendly staff only steps to St. Marco Piazza, shops... More

Our first visit on a budget. Hotel was clean and well situated just 20 yards from St Marks Square. Housekeeping came in every day to change towels and sheets and a very pleasant lady too. Breakfast was included and was better than we had expected plenty of choice continental style. The staff on reception were always polite and ready to... More

For such a lovely hotel I was surprised at the poor quality of the mattress and pillows. The mattress was ancient and thin and sloped to the center( my back was killing me) and the pillows were thin and hard! I had to use my neck pillow from the plane so that I could sleep. Tylenol in the a.m. helped....... More

We stayed one night in Venice at the end of our cruise before flying home the next day. The Royal San Marco front desk staff were very helpful when we showed up hours early to drop off our bags. They set up a totally complimentary water taxi to Murano and a tour of one of the glass making factories. The... More

We stayed for one night in Venice on our Italian holiday. The hotel is in a very good location. However, the rooms are so tiny that you can't really do anything but sleep. No room to sit down. Breakfast was good but very busy and they had trouble keeping up with the food, the crockery and cutlery. The hotel let... More

This delightful little hotel has a superb location extremely close to St Mark's. Very pleasant rooms which lived up to the photos on the internet. Delightful little balcony overlooking the canal. Very pleasant staff. A free taxi boat ride was included to Murano (one way!).

Excellent rooms (although dated, to be fair). Prompt and excellent service. If I had a complaint, it would be that the breakfast fare could stand some variety; we were there a week and it got more than a bit boring. Still, overall, an excellent experience.

The location of this hotel was great although a little tough to get to walking with suitcases. After reading some reviews I was a little worried about staying here but we were pleasantly surprised by the room. The size of the room was reasonable for European standards. The bathroom was a little small but manageable. The breakfast was good as... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
