My hubby and I were unable to find the hotel upon reach San Marco. We walked around for about 20 mins before we finally got there. Note to travellers: Find out where exactly it is in San Marco else, San Marco has many small alleys that you can get lost in. Room - Small but quaint looking. Our room overlooked... More

Hotel dated and not luxurious at all. Typical overpriced tourist trap, as one often finds in Venice. Was there for Biennial opening week May 2015. No room service, no bar, no servcie at all, had to go to poor quality cafe opposite to get tea, faced with very rude waitress who insulted me. Complained to management, nothing WAS done about... The hotel is in a great location just off San Marco but that is the only positive thing I can say. The rooms were tiny (room 306 was like a broom cupboard!) and so hot that sleeping was impossible for the first 3 nights (the air con was turned on for the last night so this was better). Breakfast was... More

We were a group of 7 that stayed at the Royal San Marco in Venice. Great location, a minute away from St Marks square and all the buzzing lanes in Venice. Do use the hotels free trip to Murano to see the glass factory. The hotel has a hearty breakfast to begin the day. And free wifi!

Guess it is standard to put guests in a bad room (small, dark, noisy ...see photos) for the first night, and wait if they are complaining. So it makes a bad start for holidays. Overcrowded small breakfast room, low quality, better to take breakfast somewhere else. The Wifi works well, one of the closest hotels to Marcus square.

Ideal location to hold a small to medium sized conference. Very helpful staff, especially Massimo, who handled so many details for our meeting. Rooms and suites are larger than most in Venice. Clean, comfortable, and well appointed.

We have just returned from 2 nights in this hotel. The staff did move us for our second night but the first, we were in a very small and cramped room, with the lift taking up a huge corner, with people in and out all night and paying 880 euros for the privilege! The breakfast is also very basic, but... More

Amazing location just behind Piazza San Marco. Very clean suites and friendly staff. Wifi works well. Great place to stay. Booked a room with canal view and had a canal view but remember this is not on the grand canal so they are smaller. Good shops and eateries all around.

When neither my husband nor I could barely turn around in the shower stall, and when the curtains in the bathroom are so thin we can see into the windows of the building across the canal (which also means they can see us) there's a problem with the bathroom in general. The location is wonderful, the staff are helpful and... More

I have read so many trip advisor reviews and thought, "I'll never be so negative as some people and be fair"....well here comes honest and fair. At first I was attracted to the decent rate and proximity to San Marco square. I got to my room which was extremely large however the interior was extremely dated (don't really care), the... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
