By now you probably realized Venice is not a cheap city to stay. We booked this guesthouse because of its reviews and we were not disappointed at all. Maria and her sister are adorable and they make you feel at home even before you arrive to Venice. The location is great (10 minutes walking from the bus and train station)... More

After we had booked this hotel through Expedia, and received confirmation, we received an e-mail a while later stating that Santa Margherita itself had cancelled our reservation. After speaking with Expedia, they said that they were unable to get ahold of this hotel and couldn't figure out why it was cancelled. They believed, however, that in the time it took... More

Dear Jason, Thank you for the time you spent writing about us: it is very important your opinion and you are giving me the opportunity to clarify an important thing. It often happens that reservations are guaranteed by non-valid cards, and the only tool that owners have to protect themselves from losses or loss of earnings is to report invalid... More

Visiting Venice to enjoy the city and visit the Architecture Biennale, my son and I could not have found a better place to stay, Housed in a beautiful old building in Dorsoduro, the hotel is on a quiet street between two piazzas -- Campo Santa Margerita and Campo San Barnaba. Both have numerous restaurants and Campo Santa Margarita hosts fruit... More

We got a very early flight into venice and therefore too early for check in but this was no problem for Maria (owner) as she said come along when you can and she would make us a coffee and gave us tips downstairs while they clean our room ready for us. This was exception service and made our start to... More

Lovely stay in this guesthouse . I wasn't made to feel awkward even though I arrived nearly 3 hours later than expected . I was greeted at the door by Maria's mother and shown around. My ONLY improvement would be a bigger bed , but it is advertised as a single room therefore I expected a single. The coffee maker... More

Just back from a lovely visit to Venice and a stay of 4 nights at Santa Margherita Guesthouse which I would highly recommend for a clean, comfortable and reasonably priced place to stay in Venice. Just 5 minutes walk from a vaporetto stop on the Grand Canal in a friendly location with lots of local bars, restaurants and shops. Campo... More

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay here. It's nicely tucked away from all the noise and bustle of the tourist places. The staff was great, the room relatively large, and comfortable. We loved having a place to stay away from all the crowds. Although the guesthouse doesn't face any canals, it has a gorgeous little garden to eat... More

A really lovely Guesthouse in the heart of Venice located on a quiet side street close to Campo Santa Magherita. Maria and her mother were perfect hosts and did everything possible to ensure a warm welcome to their beautiful city. The room had everything one could need. The area is quiet and there is a lovely garden to relax in... More

My daughter and I were warmly welcomed by Maria and given excellent information regarding the sites, restaurants and transport in Venice. The location is great as you are in walking distance of the main sites. The guesthouse was clean and quiet. We both loved the small garden and the personal support that was offered. We will definitely stay here again... More

Loved this impeccably-clean guesthouse and its lovely breakfast garden. Excellent location away from the crowds but close to all the sights. Breakfast was disappointing--Coco Puffs was only cereal option and only one type of fruit served; I'd recommend bringing your own food.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
