I selected this guesthouse because of its location, (having stayed in Venice before I knew that it is not right in the busy tourist jam, but within easy walking distance of not only the main sights but also the water buses). Right from booking, Maria was excellent. She sent really clear instructions to allow us to find the property, and... More

I chose this guesthouse because of the reviews and how friendly Maria was. The location was in a really lovely quiet area, the room, spacious, beautifully clean and well organised. The lovely Maria had organised everything very efficiently, door codes etc. We arrived late at the station and were worried about finding our way to Santa Margherita - as Venice can... More

Cool, calm, clean and efficient - perfect in every way. We let ourselves in with the passcode provided, no bother with endless paperwork on arrival. The self-catering setup is great. Maria offered really practical advice, leading us to a few hidden gems we would never have found on our own. Excellent location, easy access to water taxis and amazing restaurants.

It was my second visit to the guesthouse in 12 months and I found the room to be as per my expectations. It was clean, spacious, airy, with a comfy sofa bed and the window looking out to the courtyard. Maria's hosting skills need a special mention here which exceeded my expectations. She was able to accomodate my demanding itinerary,... More

Firstly, the pre- and post-arrival service from Maria was exemplary. So kind, so friendly and so helpful. She gave great advice and her directions to the guesthouse were perfect. I stayed on the first floor for 4 nights as a solo traveller and it was perfect for me. Very clean and a nice big bathroom. Single bed. Access to a... More

I stayed here for 3 nights in April 2015. The room had modern furniture and was in a good condition. The rooms are as shown on the guesthouse homepage. The guesthouse is operated on a selfservice basis: you lock yourself in, you make your own coffee or tee for breakfast. Most of the time there is not anyone to help... More

By now you probably realized Venice is not a cheap city to stay. We booked this guesthouse because of its reviews and we were not disappointed at all. Maria and her sister are adorable and they make you feel at home even before you arrive to Venice. The location is great (10 minutes walking from the bus and train station)... More

After we had booked this hotel through Expedia, and received confirmation, we received an e-mail a while later stating that Santa Margherita itself had cancelled our reservation. After speaking with Expedia, they said that they were unable to get ahold of this hotel and couldn't figure out why it was cancelled. They believed, however, that in the time it took... More

Dear Jason, Thank you for the time you spent writing about us: it is very important your opinion and you are giving me the opportunity to clarify an important thing. It often happens that reservations are guaranteed by non-valid cards, and the only tool that owners have to protect themselves from losses or loss of earnings is to report invalid... More

Visiting Venice to enjoy the city and visit the Architecture Biennale, my son and I could not have found a better place to stay, Housed in a beautiful old building in Dorsoduro, the hotel is on a quiet street between two piazzas -- Campo Santa Margerita and Campo San Barnaba. Both have numerous restaurants and Campo Santa Margarita hosts fruit... More

We got a very early flight into venice and therefore too early for check in but this was no problem for Maria (owner) as she said come along when you can and she would make us a coffee and gave us tips downstairs while they clean our room ready for us. This was exception service and made our start to... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
