We enjoyed our stay at Locanda Casa Querini, but it was very, very difficult to find at night (we arrived around 10 pm via train). The alleyways in Venice are poorly marked and many locals had not heard of the square the inn is located on. It took us an hour of wandering late at night to finally find it.... More

We found this hotel using the Rick Steves guidebook. Located on a quiet "campo" (square) just a short 5-minute walk from St. Mark's piazza, this little place was simply outstanding. The room with private bathroom was clean and comfortable, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. If and when we return to Venice, my wife and I will definitely... More

Lacanda Casa has three outstanding attributes, location, location, & location. We stayed with our nearly 13 year old granddaughter during the last week of March and could not been happier with our choosing to stay here. Every thing was close, St Mark's Square, Rialto Bridge, Accademia Bridge, San Zaccaria vaporetti stop, you name it and it was there. The location... More

This is a small family run hotel close to St. Marks. The owners are very friendly and most helpful answering our questions and giving advice on how to get around Venice and places to eat. There is no elevator in the hotel but they were very nice to take our luggage up and down the stairs. The room we had... More

Stayed here for 4 nights while visiting Venice. Venice is very crowded and can be a bit much for most travelers. This little B&B is located behind an old and unfinished church (seems like the old Venetian family went broke before finishing it) and looks into the back courtyard of this church. It is easy to get to the main... More

Visited this hotel in June 2013. The rooms were comfortable and the staff was friendly. The hotel is tucked away and very quiet. Nice little breakfast with local food. Our family of four loved it! We recommend it to others who want something off the beaten path and definitely authentic Italian.

This is a very quaint Italian hotel tucked in a quiet square very close to St. Mark's Square. The staff assisted us with transportation to the airport and was very friendly. The breakfasts were fabulous as well. We were able to explore Venice and still be close to our hotel. Loved it!!!

Very friendly and bilingual staff, clean room, nice to be able to sit outside in private piazza, very close to st Marcos square and all the major sites. They assisted me with connections and time tables for trains and boats to airport as well as other destinations. Love this place!

We stayed at Locanda Casa Querini for two nights in September.. It is located on a quiet square just 5 minutes walk from St. Mark's Square. Though close to everything, it is tucked away on a quiet little square away from the crowds. The room was very cute, the breakfast was yummy, and the staff was helpful. We greatly enjoyed... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
