We were traveling in march this year. When we arrived the manager took my card for authorisation and one night money was deducted. At the time of leaving, he asked for my debit card again. I asked what about the money that he has already deducted and he said that is a preauthorisation amount and it will be refunded. After... More

We have stayed here twice, once in 2009 and again for 2014/2015 New Years. Fantastic location, a few minutes' walk to the Rialto bridge. The place is a little tired but for the price/location it is great value for money. Breakfast in the room each day is a nice touch. Good service and they were more than happy to keep... More

Of all the hotels I have stayed in using Tripadvisor ratings, this one evokes the most mixed feelings. The one point in its favour was the price, Eu 63/night. This included an adequate breakfast with a cup of coffee. The price was a big factor in our deciding to book this B&B as other hotels in Venice were quite expensive.... More

If you look back on our Tripadvisor reviews, we have stayed in room #4 seven times over the years. Now it is like visiting family when we go back. We love every part of it, from the location to Stepheno and his family. We are planning another trip and looked on Tripadvisor to see how things are in Venice. I... More

We had a wonderful time at Locanda Leon Bianco. The view of the Grand Canal from our room and the location was FANTASTIC! The room is what I would call a typical European room. It met all our needs. The continental breakfast was an added bonus. Stefano was very helpful during our stay. It was close to the Rialto bridge... More

The Locanda Leon Bianco gave my wife and I just what we wanted on our honeymoon. Though the room was a nice size and all the accomodations were great (morning continental breakfast, air conditioning, etc), what you're really paying for is the view of the Grand Canal. We had room #2, which included a single window but one that gave... More

The hotel was charming and just what we required. Exactly what I was expecting as typical venetian. Sloping marble floors, freezes painted on the walls. Our Host Stefano was very attentive. Breakfast was the only meal served, brought to our Bedroom each morning. In the middle of town and vey accessible. Views of the courtyard or the Grand Canal depending... More

When my husband and I stepped into the B &B we felt like we entered a villa. Our enormous room with a private, very modern bath was extremely unique. Stefano was a wonderful host who accommodated our early schedule. Breakfast was delicious and his restaurant recommendations were right on. We were disappointed we only had 2 nights in Venice!

Myself and my husband spent 3 nights at Locanda Leon Bianco in early September '14. We flew from Dublin to Venice Treviso with Ryanair, you can get a bus from Treviso airport to Venice centre (€18 per person return). You should get off at second and final stop (approx 1 hour) then take a water bus the number 1 (€7... More

We stayed here for 2 nights, Sept 3-4, in 2 adjoining rooms (#2 & #3), located on the Grand Canal. The rooms were very spacious and clean, even considering the age of the hotel. (Remember EVERYTHING on the island of Venice is centuries OLD.) It is a little tricky trying to find the hotel going through the small dark alleyways... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
