A small, comfortable, reasonably priced - for Venice ! - perfectly located bed and breakfast with a helpful owner. We took the grand Canal view room which was amazing. To enjoy breakfast in our room while looking at the hustle & bustle of the waterway was an experience we will never forget.

We were blown away by the the room and the view...The room was huge for Venice standards and the whole hotel was enchanting. Loved the breakfast which was promptly delivered to our room every morning. Was fabulous to watch the sun set every evening and the delivery boats arrive every morning on the Grand canal. We had our 9 year... More

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights. Was an average stay. Our room was spacious with good air conditioning and wifi. Don't expect a lot from breakfast, we were given a croissant each with a stale bread roll and package crouton type toast. Although it took us a little while to find the hotel it's location was good.... More

We arrived by water taxi to another hotel Locanda San Apostoli two buildings to the left where we stayed one night. The next morning we walked to this hotel Locanda Leon Bianco using the directions from the hotel sent in an email. I had looked up the route using "maps" on my phone to really get the view. Be physically... More

We came here for a surprise for my partner's birthday, and as hoped it was very romantic. The view is just incredible, and breakfast overlooking the Grand Canal is the sort of luxury you come to Venice for. The room was simple, but spacious and the furniture was decorative and functional, no tv but really didn't miss it. Asked in... More

There was one good thing about this hotel - the location. Everything else was downhill from there. Upon arriving, the other couple that we traveled with was given a suite on the ground floor. Their accommodations were not bad; they had an eye level view on the Grand Canal. They did, however, smell the dank canal water that was feet... More

Hi, I had booked the best room, room 4, months in advance. At check in I was shown to the pokiest room I have ever seen. I explained it was wrong as I was told I was wrong and I was not possible for them to have made a mistake, After a few minutes and thankfully my printed out booking,... More

We had a room for 5 adults which was very spacious and had a huge bathroom, air-con was very good and so was the free wifi . I would highly recommend this accommodation it is in... More

The positives:- The check in was very comfortable and i believe it was Stefano who helped us with our bags....i did not expect but hugely appreciate. & Location is perfect.....very close to rialto bridge. The negatives: 1) they say you have to get lost in the alleys of venice to really see it....i think so too, but not when i... More

We started our Mediterranean cruise in Italy so we landed 3 days early to see the city. We loved Locanda Leon Bianco because of the view of the canal. My wife and I sat for hours at our window, including during the simple breakfast that was brought every morning (OJ, coffee, pastry). There was a fabulous view of the Rialto... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
