There was one good thing about this hotel - the location. Everything else was downhill from there. Upon arriving, the other couple that we traveled with was given a suite on the ground floor. Their accommodations were not bad; they had an eye level view on the Grand Canal. They did, however, smell the dank canal water that was feet... More

Hi, I had booked the best room, room 4, months in advance. At check in I was shown to the pokiest room I have ever seen. I explained it was wrong as I was told I was wrong and I was not possible for them to have made a mistake, After a few minutes and thankfully my printed out booking,... More

We had a lovely stay in the Locanda Leon Bianco, the directions provided where very accurate and allowed us to find the Hotel easily. We had a room for 5 adults which was very spacious and had a huge bathroom, air-con was very good and so was the free wifi . I would highly recommend this accommodation it is in... More

The positives:- The check in was very comfortable and i believe it was Stefano who helped us with our bags....i did not expect but hugely appreciate. & Location is perfect.....very close to rialto bridge. The negatives: 1) they say you have to get lost in the alleys of venice to really see it....i think so too, but not when i... More

We started our Mediterranean cruise in Italy so we landed 3 days early to see the city. We loved Locanda Leon Bianco because of the view of the canal. My wife and I sat for hours at our window, including during the simple breakfast that was brought every morning (OJ, coffee, pastry). There was a fabulous view of the Rialto... More

we were in the smaller room option but found it perfectly adequate - staff very helpful - location ideal for access to major sites, and from the airport bus is a short boat trip plus easy walk - wifi worked perfectly - lift small but held 4 bags and ourselves - will stay again

Steffano the owner of this small hotel made our three night stay before the cruise fantastic! Views from our balcony/window of the Grand Canal so close to the Rialto Bridge, shopping and history were great! Price is reasonable compared to higher end places and well worth it! Make sure to read the directions how to get to the hotel and... More

Walking through the tiny alley to the small courtyard and finding the hotel was iffy at first, but we were fine after the first time. Nice sized room and good staff. Is not a large hotel but I felt it was comfy. Would recommend.

I booked only one night here and enjoyed an excellent stay with my wife in a canal view room. The room was spacious, bright and well ventilated. Location is wonderfully central and very easy to get to using Vaporetto #1 (stop Ca'D'Oro) which is a 5 minute walk away. Easy when arriving from Treviso and also very convenient when we... More

I very much enjoyed just sitting at the window watching the traffic on the Grand Canal. For this, the price was worth every euro. Stefano was a gracious host, the bed was comfortable, and it was great fun having an adjoining room with my friend and colleague (Rooms 2 and 3). The room was clean and comfortable with historic ambiance.... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
