The inn is very well managed- its more like a B&B than a full service hotel, Our room was clean and I loved getting breakfast in bed every morning :) We got Room 4- it was probably the highlight of our stay in Venice. First of all, the room is huge, and then you have 3 big windows looking at... More

Well, the young lady was very pleasant at check-in. The owner was pleasant and helpful too. But make sure you call and proper directions to the hotel. Also, make sure you understand that the room with a view of the canal is not a view of the grand canal. This description is a little deceptive. The room was spartan but... More

Don't let the exterior fool you, Locanda Leon is classic Venice and the PERFECT location for a short holiday with everything just a stroll away. Our room was perfect, the bed was a little uncomfortable with 2 beds pushed together but waking up with sun shining into your room and a perfect view of the Grand Canal seemed to make... More

We stayed in a room with the Grand Canal view, which was amazing, but the Grand Canal is quite loud. The mosquitos may not seem bad at first, but DO NOT sleep with the windows open as they will come into the room well into the night around 2-3am when the waters finally calm enough, and you'll be eaten alive... First of all, this is not a full service hotel. Locando means "inn" in English and that is exactly what it is....a B&B. My 5 star rating is for how I felt my stay was in this type of lodging, not that im rating it on par with a normal full service hotel. My rating is also based on the... More

A great place to stay, in a good location, by the Strada Nova. Stefano's welcome was very much appreciated, having arrived early, after walking for hours, soaking up the atmosphere. It had been raining! The Canal Suite showed life in Venice passing by the window. Wonderful to watch and could have sat there for hours. Breakfast serve in the room, which... More

First time to Venice, and I have to admit I was worried about finding this place, and the quality of room I would find. I've head horror stories about tiny Venetian hotel rooms at exorbitant prices. I was very pleasantly surprised by how spacious the room and bathroom were. Not to mention, you are very close to Rialto Bridge and... More

This hotel gets five stars because of a few conditions. To preface, Venice is known for extremely small rooms, small windows, and hotels frequently over exaggerating their views and rooms. This hotel had none of the main problems with Venice hotels. -the hotel's rooms with a view have consistently low prices. For some reason (lucky for us) the owner does... More

The hotel is ideally situated near the Rialto Bridge. The rooms are large, with the bath being especially spacious. The air conditioner is portable, but, hey, it worked. Although not especially warm, the innkeeper was generally accommodating. The only two negatives were that my canal view room did not provide an especially good view of the canal, and I the... More

We stayed here for at the end of our Honeymoon trip in September 2014 The room is Beautiful, exactly what you want it to be like in Venice! with a view on the Canal (we had the best room of the hotel) The bed could use an upgrade (but this is everywhere in europe) Bfast if served in the room... Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
