We visited Venice in September 2015 and booked the hotel for 2 nights. It was a perfect place to stay, near all the city's attractions. Walking distance to the Piazza San Marco, Bridge of Sighs and Doge's Palace. Lots and lots of places for both casual and fine dining. Our breakfast was included in the price. It was not a... More

This hotel was perfect for the one night that we stayed in Venice. I reserved a double and as you can see by the pictures we got four twins. The room was very small by any standard but the room and bathroom were very clean. I had read on previous reviews that there was an issue with towels but we... More

The location is very good, breakfast lady was very helpful, we checked in late (5pm) and they were ok with it. Breakfast is also nice. They let us leave our luggage for few more hours after we checked out. Room is not very nice, but good for what we paid (compared to other hotels). One of the toilets were in... More

Down a side canal away from the crowds, but within 400m of St Mark's. A budget hotel by Venice standards and should be judged on that basis, but we found it comfortable, friendly and convenient, with helpful staff.

This hotel could not be in a better location, 2 min walk and you are on St Marc's square but out the way enough that you can have an I disturbed night sleep. Our main concern with the hotel had been the shared bathroom, however the bathrooms are visibly cleaned regularly and are therefore clean, with an excellent shower. The... More

Friendly staff who were helpful. The hotel is located in the middle of where everything is happening. It could have been cleaner. I recommend this place if you want to spend most of your time outdoors. Which is obvious if one visits the heart of Venice. affordable and centrally located, is this hotel's best sides.

Probably any hostel for half the price would be better than this ''hotel''. The bathroom was clean, but the room was uncomfortable and small and seemed dirty. The first thing we noticed were big white dried spots on a green blanket. The location is pretty great though, even though there was absolutely no view on anything but a dark narrow... More

The room was nice and clean and enough for our stay, but the receptionist was not very helpful in giving us tips on where to eat and drink, so we just had to hope for the best based on tripadvisor ratings and our luck. Breakfast was okay.

Great hotel for a really good price. Location is excellent, 3 minutes from St. Mark Square, S. Zaccaria vaporetto stop is also just 5 minutes. There is also a small supermarket (Coop) just couple of streets away. We had a room with a shared bathroom, but we had our own toilet. The toilet's door was broken, it couldn't be properly... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
