Friendly staff who were helpful. The hotel is located in the middle of where everything is happening. It could have been cleaner. I recommend this place if you want to spend most of your time outdoors. Which is obvious if one visits the heart of Venice. affordable and centrally located, is this hotel's best sides.

Probably any hostel for half the price would be better than this ''hotel''. The bathroom was clean, but the room was uncomfortable and small and seemed dirty. The first thing we noticed were big white dried spots on a green blanket. The location is pretty great though, even though there was absolutely no view on anything but a dark narrow... More

The room was nice and clean and enough for our stay, but the receptionist was not very helpful in giving us tips on where to eat and drink, so we just had to hope for the best based on tripadvisor ratings and our luck. Breakfast was okay.

Great hotel for a really good price. Location is excellent, 3 minutes from St. Mark Square, S. Zaccaria vaporetto stop is also just 5 minutes. There is also a small supermarket (Coop) just couple of streets away. We had a room with a shared bathroom, but we had our own toilet. The toilet's door was broken, it couldn't be properly... More

Pros: cheap, good breakfast and staff friendly but not knowledgable about their own amenities. Cons: Worst bed I have ever laid on in my life. I could feel every single spring and it was all around awful. I woke up both mornings in so much pain!! Also, one of the main reasons we decided on this place was because it... More

** Benefits - The hotel is very well located. San Marco is the heart of Venice, and you can reach it with a 2/3 minutes walk! The vaporetto stop (San Marco - San Zaccaria) is also very close. - Breakfast is simple but good, considering that it was included. ** Drawbacks - Nothing remarkable, but the absence of elevators.

We picked the Locanda Silva because it had great reviews here and Trivago. We went on a cruise and stayed here 2 nights before and after the cruise. Everything was pre-paid from Trivago and only had to pay the Venice city tax of €1 per person per night in cash. Friends and family traveling with use who were booked in... More

We were referred by a friend, he just completed his stay there. Spacious rooms, with en suite bathrooms for a fare price. They do have rooms with bathrooms located down the hall, reduces prices. This would work for me, but my husband wanted his own. Hotel was clean and functional. Front desk at night, not too friendly, but still pleasant... More

Locanda Silva has an excellent location; just a few blocks from San Marco Square. The day staff is very helpful; the evening night staff speaks limited English and, thus, less helpful. The rooms are recently renovated and comfortable. The included breakfast is quite good as well. I would have given a 4 star rating except my double room with bath... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
