We were visiting Venice during the carnaval so a hotel in the center was a must. The pictures shown on the internet do not match reality the wallpaper is very loose, cracks in the wall, torn bedsheets and a shared bathroom that wasn't very clean. They wrote a reception 24/7 but if you arrived later than 22:00 you'd have to... More

For a 1 star hotel this was really good. Nice clean room - the walls had cracks in them but the room was decent. You had a bed, wardrobe, desk, a tv, a sink, and a bedside table. Shared bathroom but it was kept clean. Friendly staff. Only thing is walls are paper thin so you could everything next room... More

It's a terrible hotel.... Horrible beds... Windows with a view to a wall!!! Difficult to find. Bad Wifi... No maps, no breakfast...Don't check in this hotel! You can get a better hotel in other neighborhoods, Venice is small so you can easy walk to Plaza San Marcos. Better to walk a little more than to stay in this place...

The Hotel Caneva is perfectly located to explore all the main attractions being only around 4 minute walk to St Marks Square or to the Rialto Bridge. The hotel is what it is being a one star hotel so don't expect luxury. We were pleasantly surprised to have a canal view and the staff were very friendly. The room had... More

but there were not much of facilities. we wanted a kettle to boil water, but the person in charge during the morning period asked us to pay 5 euro for the breakfast set, only then we can have some hot water. and he was quite rude. there was another receptionist, named Omar, he was wonderful and friendly. he helped us... Lots of mixed reviews about this place but I feel that in Venice unless your paying top dollar this hotel is suitable in this price range. My advice staying here would be treat the room as a bed to sleep in, that's about it. The rooms aren't great but your in a beautiful city so be out as much as... More

ok, I get that it's not five star but it could be so much better. We booked a room with private bathroom. Delighted to see we had a balcony overlooking a canal. Not so delighted to notice squashed mosquitoes and blood on the walls. Nor to hear all the details of next doors love life through the thin walls. gross!... More

I am actually lying in bed in this hotel right now. Its 7:17am and i have been awake since 3:00am listening to the boats bring in supplies to the hotel and the gentleman (very loose term) at the desk yell jokes over the sound of the engines. Normally I won't write bad reviews and the fact is i can overlook... More

Budget hotel for the location you want. You get a room, beds, we got a balcony not everyone does facing a canal. The bathrooms are shared bathrooms which for toilets are fine but only 2 showers. There needs to be more showers. You need to turn in your key when you leave, if they are not there leave it at... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
