Exelent location, nice room and special kind staff. Also price included a trip Murano Island private boat. Breakfest was good medium standard. Hotel was very tidy and room cleaning every day. Warm shower was possible only in the mornings.

Perfectly situated next to Piazza San Marco and an easy walk to the Grand Canal, this hotel was charming, clean, and comfortable. The front desk staff (especially Vito) was extremely helpful with directions, times, and suggestions regardless of the activity. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Highly recommend this lovely hotel!

We have experienced a unique family trip while staying at Hotel San Gallo. I was extremely impressed by the customer oriented staff - they were extremely flexible, very polite which increased a lot our comfort. And the fact that is is only 50 m from San Marco Square makes it the perfect choice.

The location is excellent and really close to San Marco square and the Basilica and all the main attractions. The hotel id definitely old and dingy and the price didn't match the room. The room we got was in an annex side of the hotel. The main hotel doesn't have an elevator so you have to carry your luggage up... More

This is a nice hotel, in a good location. For the price. However the room we stayed in was terrible compared to some of the other bigger rooms. The bed was a small double we could only just fit in it and fell out regularly during the night. The room is very small no where to put baggage. The bathroom... More

Location is excellent, you're 1 minute away from San Marco Square and Basilica and all the main attractions. The hotel is definitely 2-star, not 3 star. It's a family run establishment which apart from the location doesn't have much to offer. The breakfast was very basic and limited so if you're happy to have it elsewhere you'll be fine. No... More

The hotel is very close to San Marco and reasonable price. The room is a bit tiny but clean. Breakfast is good with lots of choices. We only stayed one night in a triple room. Overall I would stay here again due to its central location and affordability.

The hotel is right behind St. Mark's Square so the location is outstanding. I don't feel, however, as though the three star rating is accurate due to: - low water pressure and a shower that takes 10-15 minutes to start producing hot water - a double bed that is really two twins pushed together (don't count on snuggling with your... I had some reservations about staying at this hotel before I arrived but at the price for the location I couldn't resist and I'm so glad I chose to stay here. The location can not be beaten. A few steps from St marks square, across from the hard rock cafe, close to loads of little restaurant and small walk to... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
