Originally we were scheduled to arrive at the hotel at midnight. I'm glad we didn't get there until the next morning ... because even having been to Venice 3 times previously and knowing the area where the hotel was, there is NO WAY we would have found this in the dark. We really struggled the next day in the light... More

Originally my booking was at different hotel, however they moved me to this so-called "sister hotel", the building is terribly bad & old, hotel access is very difficult and very small. I found insects on the bed & every where at the room, which caused me skin issues (attached photos of the insects), so i decided to escape from this... More

We had been worried about finding this hotel due to previous comments, but thanks to the directions given by Siv S in October, found it in the dark and the rain with no problems. Pity the hotel doesn't use the directions on its website! The room was a good size and nice to have a bath after lots of walking... More

This hotel is hard to find, so I will try to explain where to go. I will be detailed, so skip he next 4 paragraphs if you are not interested. Start at Piazza San Marco. The water bus goes there from the airport. Be aware that you should get off at the main stop for San Marco, NOT the Zaccaria... More

Smallish rooms as expected in old building in the middle of the city. Fantastic location few minutes walk from Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square. You will almost certainly have to ask for help with the last 50 metres of your walk to the hotel as the entrance is down a small passageway. Room very comfortable though don't expect much... More

The hotel advertises that it is a few minutes from San Marco Square, which it is, but you'll need someone to lead you there the first time (we hired a porter who was waiting outside the Piazza San Marco vaporetto stop). Although our luggage had wheels and we could have pulled it to the hotel, it was worth 30 euros... More

We looked for a centrally located hotel in Venice. While it fulfills this criterium, I would not give it my warmest recommendation. I've stayed in nicer hotels for the same price, it was hard to find. We had a baby ant problem in one of the two rooms. The hotel had nothing to offer but the rooms. Our rooms stared... More

This hotel has an ideal location as it is very close to Saint Marks Square. The closest vaperetto stop is the Rialto stop, but if you have luggage, I suggest the St Marcus stop. It is a little challenging to find, but you can ask for the Max Mara and it is close to it. The hotel is small, but... More

We stayed here for two nights. It is a small little hotel in the back streets of Venice which we liked. Staff were friendly enough but we were not offered any information on what to do there or on sight-seeing tours. The room was small and very dark. The breakfast was reasonable and we liked that they offered a traditional... More

Huh, the room was the typical small European room (at least for our budget) and it was nice. Okay, now the not so good. It was nearly impossible to find, even when I was standing in front of it. The fish store that is about twenty yards away can scent the air a way that fish can. The staff went... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
