Huh, the room was the typical small European room (at least for our budget) and it was nice. Okay, now the not so good. It was nearly impossible to find, even when I was standing in front of it. The fish store that is about twenty yards away can scent the air a way that fish can. The staff went... More

This hotel was soo hard to find took us over 45 minutes!!! Clerk at the desk are not friendly and helpful. The room was clean and ours seemed large. Breakfast was prepackaged baked goods nothing warm but the lady made great cappuccinos!! Clerk didn't even mention where breakfast was or even say hello when leaving or entering the hotel. I... Terrific location (though difficult to find initially - when you get to the little square beside the church, there's a restaurant and you can ask there, or go down the right of it and take first left down a tiny walkway and the hotel is on your left as you get to the next turn). So close to Piazza San... More

Location The location of this hotel cannot be beat and that was the main reason for giving it 4 stars. It is a two minute walk to St Marks Square and a three minute walk to the Rialto Bridge. Service This was pretty hit and miss. Some of the staff were very helpful with giving directions and others were not... More

Very hard to find however we called the hotel and the night receptionist came out to guide us to it. Now that's good service which ever way you look at it. Our welcome was very friendly and pleasant. Once in the room we were quite happy as it was exactly as pictured (superior room) with all facilities quoted on the... More

Although it has been almost 2 years since I stayed at this hotel, I decided to write a review just as a sign of my pleasant time spent there. The first best thing about the hotel is that it is situated at the very centre of Venice, few steps away from Piazza San Marco (the famous Venice Square). It is... More

we were pleasantly surprised at the spaciousness of our room (111) when we finally managed to find the hotel...even the GPS on the phone struggled. The information on the website to find it was useful and worth either printing out or following. We arrived early and left our bags no problem. Breakfast was adequate in a small room on the... More

I booked this hotel through Expedia and when we got there, the hotel was close and there was a note on the door indicating that it's currently close for renovation and we were to check in at Antico Panada which is about 100 meters away (that's it, no clear description of which direction, considering that the streets of Venice is... We were thoroughly disappointed with the room we were alloted. To make it worse, the behavior of the staff was much to be desired! Will not recommend this hotel to my friends. However, the location was good, very close to Rialto.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
