The hostel is small and nice. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They put me in a private room which was nice. The only thing I would say is the carpet on the stairs needs to be replaced but besides that everything was great. It is in a good location in Venice, a lot of great places to eat... More

We stayed in a 4 bed room which for £40 a night was pretty expensive for such basic facilities - no breakfast, no air-con (a fan), no computers to use, no lockers and no kitchen (which I was aware of). In reality you're paying for a roof, bed, WiFi, toilet and shower. The staff aren't overly friendly and are rather... More

The owner is amazing and nice. It is only him that works there which creates a downside that reception closes at about 10pm and opens at 8am (you can checkout whenever you please though). I see why the place has won awards for best staff on hostelbookers. I highly recommend this, and location is great! Very simple and he upgraded... More

The hostel is simple, small, but the owner, is really sweet!! The location is good, there is no comon area, or breakfast. But its a good option if you are going to stay only a couple of nights and need something with a good price! ...............

There's a lot to improve with this hostel. It has to catch up with standards when it comes to its facilities and services. That 2 persoon room downstairs wasn't really clean. Warm water from the shower took too long to flow. The drainage wasn't working well. Water flowed out very slow and started to build up on the floor which... More

The room was tiny, the toilet was too dirty, we couldn't convince ourselves to take a shower, the water was ice-cold and the water ran all night and in the morning the toilet floor was filled with cold water. It was very over priced, the owner is a nice guy but we were extremely disappointed in the room, not recommended... More

While the accommodations weren't ammmmazing, they were good for the price we paid (in comparison to overpriced Venice hotels). We had a double room but a shared bathroom. The shared bathroom was very clean. We were on the second floor so didn't have a view, but the location was great. We were easily able to get to the water taxi... More

The room was good, We were four so they gave us like a little house just for us, very good for privacy. The bathroom wasn't great but it wasn't horrible. The guy from the hostel wasn't that nice. The localization was perfect, very near to the S. Marcus square, but very far away from the train station, if you are travelling... More

It is about 7-10 minutes away from St. Mark's Square and was near to places that we wanted to visit. We were given 2 rooms on the ground floor which were quite small (2 single beds, a stool and a bedside table and a small path to the toilet). The rooms and walkway had this damp/moldy smell and lack of... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
