This charming hotel overlooks a Gondola station. So it is always fun and interesting to watch the Gondoliers singing and laughing and skillfully navigating their way under the low pretty bridge. Walking distance to Airport and Train Vaporetto connections. Breakfast servers and quality was excellent.

Our family of four (two adults and two teens) had a wonderful, one night stay at Hotel Violino d'Oro. It is very close to the main square but the hotel is very quiet and creates a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. We all slept very well. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and everyone who works at the hotel is friendly and... More

Great hotel with reasonable size rooms and fantastic location. Breakfast diverse and staff friendly. Had a canal view room and worth the extra money for extra space and view alone. Loved our stay. Visit to Burano a must!

We stayed in Venice in Dcemver 2014 before christmas for few days and wanted a good location which is close to main attractions. Hotel Violono d'oro was a perfect choice for reasonable price. I also liked evening with the live music. Rooms were clean and food was tasty.

This hotel has a great location and was surprisingly easy to find! We took the vaporetto to the St Marks drop off and only had a few minutes walk to the hotel. The room was small but had everything you needed, the breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful and friendly. They were able to suggest some nice... More

The location of this hotel was outstanding. We arrived by the train and took the vaporetto to the St. Mark's dropoff, about a 30 minute water taxi ride. A five-minute walk gets you to St. Mark's Square and there are plenty of restaurants around, granted they are usually expensive. The room was very nice and the air conditioning was acceptable.... We had a good stay at this hotel, and it had everything that we needed. The room was set up for a toddler which we appreciated. The only downside is that we were put in the 'Annexe building', which is not part of the main hotel. This area did not have a lift, which made it harder with bags. Barring... More

We booked the annex (Dependance) with some trepidation due to poor reviews but were very pleasantly surprised. Our room was small but comfortable and was just off a quiet courtyard, 1 minute from the main hotel. No canal view but also no noise and more importantly no mosquitoes. There was no lift so maybe not a good choice for anyone... More

Wonderful small hotel in a good location. Staff were all very helpful dealing with queries and problems and advising good restaurants to eat in. Breakfast was OK, same every day but enough choice to start the day off with. Freshly made cappuccino was excellent. Our room was small, no view but a charming terrace off the bathroom with chairs and... More

The Hotel is located a mere 100 meters from the vaporetto stop which is 1/2 an hour from the St. Lucia train station. The hotel is only 5 mintes from the vaporatto stop. The hotel is exceptionally close to St Marcos (St Marks Square), the heart of Venice. I gave this hotel a 3 out of 5 because of the... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
