We stayed at Violino d'Oro for two days only, booked well in advance and chose the hotel because the location and the rating given by the TripAdvisor community. I had perfect and friendly communication with the Hotel prior my arrival and they were extremly helpful (there were some problems with pre-authirising my card). On the day of our departure the... Small hotel but perfect situation in the center of Venice. The staff is really friendly and the breakfast was delicious. Not too expensive. 5 minutes from Sint Marc place and smart shops. A good choice for a romantic citytrip.

A great little hotel in a wonderful location. It's a five minute walk to St. Marks Square and the water taxi line. Plenty of restaurants and attractions in the area. The room was very quaint and a good size for Europe. Free breakfast was included in the rate. Our room overlooked the small square with the gondola station. We liked... More

We stayed here for 3 nights, our first trip to Venice. On arrival the outside of the hotel left me slightly nervous, it looks a tad grubby ( as do lots of Venice hotels, must be the water!). However on entering I was pleasantly surprised! Lovely reception area, very friendly staff very nice room with a comfy bed ( kingsize)... More

A wonderful hotel and staff. We had a canal view which was lovely though it could get a bit noisy late in the evening if you left the windows open. For everything I'd read about rooms in Venice this one seemed spacious. The king bed was quite large and the bathroom was equally spacious though the shower is small. The... More

This hotel gets you a very good location - about 2 minutes of walking to St Marks Square, and 2 minutes of walking to a water bus stop. Very friendly customer services. Excellent breakfast is included.

It has a very good location and that is it, the rest is all average. The shower box is very small, more or less 60x60, you feel as you are inside a coffin. Despite been in a very good location, I am not sure if it is worth as you will walk everywhere anyway and this is not close to... More

The location is the best. Just a few minutes from Piazza San Marco, but right in the quieter little piazza at San Moise Church. In the opposite direction are the trendy shops like Gucci and Versace, but also those typical nice small shops with leather goods, Murano glass, fine clothing. There are a number of just right restaurants a few... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
