Great Location in the heart of Venice. Very, very clean large room (208). Beautiful breakfast. Water taxi stop maybe 200' away. Gondolas outside front door. Surprisingly quietly at night. Would definitely go back if I were lucky enough to return to Venice.

Situated centrally which was great as everything seemed so close (providing you don't get lost amongst the side streets). Conveniently placed close to a gondola station, making it entertaining too, to hear the singing coming from the boats as they sailed by. A lovely, welcoming hotel with pleasant staff and rooms that are comfortable and clean. Great breakfast.

The location is fantastic, a quick walk to San Marco's Square at to the vaporetto stop. It's also a quick walk to Academia. The room was small, but clean and had a lot of natural light. The breakfast served downstairs was good with nice touches like honeycomb and prosecco.

On my reservation that I made there it indicated Double Dependence. I was not aware this meant annex, a separate building around the corner that was terrible. My wife can not walk up stairs easily, but the building has no elevator. When informed of this, the staff said there was nothing they could do as the were completely booked. They... More

Went to The Hotel Violino D'Oro for our Honeymoon from the 30th March until the 3rd April 2015. It was our first time in Venice and I did a lot of research before booking. I have to say the hotel is in the perfect location right in the heart of this beautiful city and we really enjoyed being in a... More

My husband and I stayed in late March for 2 days at the Violino d'Oro. I was excited about the hotel because it received such good reviews, however, my experience wasn't as good as other guests. The Good: The location is excellent. It's just down the street from San Marco and it's in a really great area. The rooms were... More

Stayed here for 3 nights in March. The room was small but I expected that for the price we paid and was not a problem as we spent very little time in the room. The room and bathroom were very clean. The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is a short walk from the water bus stop... More

Had been to this hotel before. Took friends ( their first trip to Venice) with us this time and had no hesitation in choosing the Violino d'Oro. They LOVED it . Nothing too difficult for the staff - even to arranging an early morning boat taxi (5.15am!) to get us to the bus station to catch early flight home. A... More

We stayed at hotel violino d'oro for 3 nights for my partners 30th birthday. The hotel has a great location only a few minutes walk to St Marks square and the stop from the waterbus is really close too. The room was more spacious than I expected and the bathroom was lovely and modern. Breakfast was buffet style with something... More

A nicely located hotel. It used to be a hidden gem, but the masses have found this place out and not quite the deal it used to be. Still, I plan on making it back and staying here again. The folks are friendly and very helpful. Even opened the bar for a late night drink. Just a little walk to... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
