It's really the little things that add to such a great experience with this hotel. You'd notice that the hotel lies on top of a restaurant, which you can get 10% off from whilst you stay at the hotel. The automatic door opens to a small staircase that leads up to the reception and rooms. The receptionist (Vlada?) warmly greeted... More

Location of the hotel is great - just few minutes from both Piazza San Marco and Rialto (the latter one is also the best point for taking public boat - vaporetto - to anywhere you might need to go). My room was very nice, calm, comfortable and clean, breakfast was very good and the hotel service is excellent - very... More

We have just come back from our stay in Venice and we stayed at this lovely hotel for three nights. Beautifully clean, staff very friendly, good choice of buffet breakfast. Enough to set you up for the day! Lovely friendly porter who had no issues carrying our suitcases up 70 odd steps!!! The only negative is if you are on... More

I do recommend this hotel. The hotel location is convenient which you can go anywhere. The price is fair and breakfast not bad. In total is almost great just the way going to the room is quite complicated and the bed is king size which combined by double beds which made our sleeping not really good. However, I like the... Loved this hotel. Every morning we threw open the shutters to the sounds of the singing gondoliers drifting past on the canal directly below. How more romantically Venice can you get? The hotel was always spotless, and the cleaners were kind about waiting for us to get lazily out of the room every day. The staff on the desk were... More

Location was very good, close to everywhere. Service was very good. Sometimes there was noise because of crowded street but I have never complaint. Hotel is next to canal so it has very nice view… Room was always very clean. There was no elevator, we had to use stairs with our luggage :(

Very nice & simple hotel near the square & bistros. The hotel staff were accommodating and friendly! We stayed 2 nights and every morning we had the most scrumptious buffet breakfast. The servers were friendly and so happy to see us! The espresso & juices were fresh & perfect. They served fresh fruit, perfect lil croissants with chocolate filling. Nice... More

thank you so much for leaving a review. We are happy to hear that your stay in our hotel was positive. The buffet breakfast that we serve consists of salad and sweet products. You can find International and typical Venetian products, while the espresso and the cappuccino are served at the table. More

I was solo traveling to Venice for a few days and was looking for an inexpensive room (something under $250/night, which seemed to be the going rate on even the most basic hotels). This hotel offered a tiny room with a twin bed for $179/night, which was enough to bring me in the door. The room was basic and small... More

Our availability offers different types of rooms as single rooms for one person with a single bed and economy rooms with french bed to accommodate 2 people with a cheaper rate than the standard double. Its a small room idealy for 1 or 2 days. We do not have a lift but a porter service that is available from 08:00... More

Nice place in the heart of Venice. I had a hard time finding the place, but once I did I was very happy with it. It's right in San Marco square and easy access to all the other areas. The rooms were a bit small, but very comfortable. I suppose my only complaint was that my room was suppose to... More

Locanda Al Gambero is a true Venetian experience. It is located in the heart of San Marco -Rialto, if you come from the airport take allilaguna orange or blue line, super easy. The hotel clerk is receptive but not warm enough, but the senior Italian gentleman that works in the hotel is very empathic and engaging. The hotel is easy... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
