The hotel is a very quick walk from St Mark's square and main attractions, and the walk takes you over a canal where you have a great view of the bridge of sighs, into the grand canal. Also close to lots of restaurants- right next door, right across the narrow street, and around the corner. Room was small, but still... More

A small hotel very close to the St Marks Square. The room was incredibly tiny but enough for two people- bed wasn't very comfortable. The bathroom was minute in comparison you could barely sit straight on the pot! It was however very clean and quiet. The breakfast was at best average- croissants, bread, boiled eggs, yogurt, etc- nothing special. The... More

Close to San Marco, not too far from from the boat landing, safe area. The family run hotel is clean, comfortable and includes an excellent breakfast. It is friendly, helpful and most importantly honest, with all costs up front. We stayed from the end of Oct. through the first week of Nov. and felt well taken care of. Highly recommended.

When reading other reviews please bear in mind this is 3 star hotel! Some people seem to expect more...Location is perfect. Staff friendly. Breakfast is fine and typical. Beds comfortable (a real plus for me with a bad back) . Clean. Size of rooms fine. Shower would be a squeeze if you were a plus size but the ones on... More

Beautiful location. The staff is friendly. Not friendly enough to give you early checkin though. But nevertheless, a good stay and good location! The hotel doesn't have an elevator. So, all the best if you're in the second floor! The staff did help us though! The best part is definitely the location!

Small hotel, very narrow room, twin, beds end to end, very dark, poor lighting, good continental breakfast 7 euros. Basic hotel but location makes up for it, a quick walk from St Marks Square, several restaurants in square a minute from hotel and about five minutes to the shops and St Marks Square and about two minutes from the pallazo... We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. It is very central in Venice, walking distance to most things. Yes the rooms are small but it's all about the period / atmosphere. I felt like a young boy staying at my grandmothers house again. We got to know the owners very well and felt right at home, simple and filling... More

Yes it small. The rooms are adequate and the bathroom functional. We never felt uncomfortable with the facilities.I may have succumbed to a bit of middle age spread but I still comfortably walked in and out of the shower. Okay. You had to be a bit careful when in the vicinity of the toilet pan in case the toilet roll attacked you.But there... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
